Hey guys, I found a guy pretty close to me selling an MHI Big 16g, looks good based off of the pictures. Contacted him about it and he said its in perfect condition and only has about 500 miles on it. How much do you think its worth? Picture below. Thanks!

Edit: Forgot to mention it comes with Jpipe kit and oil inlet. ready for bolt on to DSM

Well you gotta always remember that you're taking it for granted when dealing with a stranger. That said, the photos look good from what you can see but make sure you give that wheel a good jiggle to see what kind of play there is. If what he says is true there should be none. Coming with a j pipe and oil feed I'd offer like 300 to start and go from there...again, that is if the condition reflects what he's saying about it.

It's not an EVO 3 turbo, can't make out the numbers to say whether it's a big or small 16. Hard to say whether it's a good deal without knowing what the price is. Based on this pic alone it's worth $100-200 tops to me. Hard to tell from the small pic, but the edges of the compressor blades seem worn. You'll want to check the shaft play, too.

Price is 200. The seller is saying its an EVO 3 Big 16g.
Ill ask for more pictures.

Looks like the numbers are worn off......

It's absolutely not an EVO 3. From the pic, I'm leaning toward a small 16g, judging by the size of the step on the inlet. Here's what a real EVO 3 looks like, you can see from this pic that the wastegate actuator has an extended ear, the compressor wheel hub is thinner, and the turbine housing is thinned out and has a curved edge at the inlet flange.

It's become common practice to call all 16g turbos an "Evo 3" version. Truth is, 99% of 16g turbos out there (even those claimed to be the infamous Evo 3) are actually a Small or Big version. There's nothing wrong with a normal 16g, and $200 would still be a good deal for one in good condition, but they're not the freak of nature that the Evo 3 is.
