In for results at the shootout! Take 'em down Shane!!

Got my adjustable coil springs installed on the front today. For some reason, the sleeves didn't fit over the body of the strut, so I had to grind them down a little bit. The bad part is that since I had to grind it down, I didn't have anything to be able to get the sleeve all the way down. The grinding disc would only go down so far. I hope it's far enough to drop the car to where I want it to be, but I'm not very hopeful about it. If it doesn't go low enough, I have some ideas of things to try to get it to drop a little lower. But I want to check it in 'factory' form before hacking stuff.

Thanks man! Hopefully I make the 14b proud, but unless they all shoot blanks I'm still bringing a knife to a gunfight! Hopefully I'll be taking down the times though.

My resident sponsor (Brian) has come through with some more hand-me-down/on loan parts. A carbon fiber hatch (w/glass) and a jmfab bumper support. Total weight loss of 20 lbs between the two for me! His car isn't near completion and he's telling me if he's going to sponsor me I better run some tens! I'm not getting that crazy with the cheese wiz yet though!

You had to grind down the strut? Sounds kind of sketchy, I'm assuming these aren't from a vendor as it really seems like they should fit properly. I'd be a little worried about that but maybe I'm picturing it wrong in my head.

Basically, the body that would sit inside the sleeve had to be ground down a little. It was only .02" total that it had to come down, so basically the paint had to come off plus a tad bit more all the way around. I am by no means worried about it. I ended up removed the adjustable perches and just put the spring on. Got it lowered quite a bit from where it was. Also got the rear AGX installed with the adjustable springs. Might go up a little higher in the rear, but it sits pretty good as is. I can probably go on up about another 1.5" if needed. Here is a shot of her:

Got my 2g MAF intake built and put in, catch can setup done, and I'm making a nice, short exhaust to dump somewhere up front. Hoping to be hitting the track within the next couple of weeks...unless the temps stay up. Next week is supposed to be back up to 100+ degrees! :notgood:

Check out this NICE exhaust manifold! Swapped this off my buddy's 90 Talon today. Makes for one laggy, lousy driving car.

Got this done to my car last night!

Planning to hit the track at some point this week for some shakedown runs. Hope the clutch holds up and the car stays together so I can get some decent runs in!

Is there anyone who's ever tried to push the 14b as hard as you guys are with a 2G? I'm just wondering what kind of times can be had out of it in a heavier car.

The only real difference is going to be the weight. There hasn't been any strong 2g contenders but there seems to be no reason to separate the 1g and the 2g times. Yes, it's possible to get a 1g lighter then a 2g, but no one has truly gotten a 14b 1g as light as humanly possible anyways. :aha:

BLT test today showed positive results. Although I need a new tester or some t-bolt clamps that won't pop off as soon as you hit 10 psi. But, no obvious leaks up to that other then from the tester itself. I also over-aired the slicks so they'll be ready to load the car on the trailer and travel, I'll bring them down friday night to race psi.

Tomorrow I plan on driving the car around for a minute to ensure no oil or coolant leaks after re-installing the turbo. Check all fluids again, rear end, t-case, trans, etc.

Just make sure the pipes have a bead on them, and check to make sure your motor mounts are stiff enough so the pipes don't pull out of the coupler if the engine rocks under power. I've been running over 40psi with standard worm drive hose clamps and never blew a coupler off.

Brandon, nice work! You're making quick progress.

My pipes are fine, it's the boost leak tester that blows off. Stupid suggested one from an old tech guide.

Got the wideband plumbed into the factory o2 sensor location today and got it running with narrowband sim. Seems to be running decent. Did a couple half way pulls on some back roads...looks decent for a starting point. Going to pick up a MAP sensor and AIT sensor so I can log boost and have everything ready for when the car makes it to SD, which will probably be over the winter!

Headed to the track tomorrow to make a few passes and get some logs to see how she's doing! Main goal is seat time and she stays together. Secondary goal is breaking into the 12s on the first outing...I have higher hopes, but will be satisfied with these results considering it's just thrown together with no tuning at this point!!

whoops! haha well there's no way to roll a bead on the turbo inlet. Although you could weld a small bead on the turbo. ...:hmm:

Looks like the next few weeks are full of 14b action nation wide. Brandon working out bugs tomorrow. Shane kickin ass at the shootout. Then I'll be running hard the weekend after. Good to see so many of us running this year. Good luck to you guys!!!!

Thanks Justin! And likewise to everyone...good luck! Interested in results over the next few weeks!!!

Justin, I might make the trip up when you go to Sac if I'm free!!

I've got a few more bugs to work out and a couple things to change and I'm ready for the travel. I'll keep ya posted before hand when I plan on goin.

It's one of those boostpro.net testers, it gets clamped into the coupler and then the coupler onto the turbo. I think it's just a really cheap coupler (the layers are starting to peel apart as well). But, either the tester shoots out of the coupler or the coupler shoots off the turbo inlet. Plus the tester itself leaks around the schrader valve and the "gauge". What I should do is build my own tester and get a quality coupler and some t-bolt clamps. :ohdamn:

This is the best time of year in my opinion. You've had all summer to work on the car, the shootout gets everyone motivated, and the temps start dropping to make for some great drag weather! 2013 has already been a good year for some of us, but I have a feeling it's going to get even better with more people joining in the fun.

You've been doing a great job plugging away at this project, I'm excited to see it run! I don't think 12's will be a problem once you have a decent tune and get a decent launch on those slicks.

Subcribed for a 10sec 14b pass!!

THIS! Once again for the record I don't believe I'm there yet, we'll see how close I come at the shootout. I'm still putting my money on Justin!

You guys are racing and and all I got is a lousy Talon shell.
:D

And two archer cars doing some sweet track laps! Maybe I should schedule another vacation soon and come help you put it back together :thumb:

You may not be there just yet, but I forsee one in your near future, if all goes well....:thumb:

WTF!!! You may have a shell, but you have two of the Badest DSMs that have been keeping you busy. :thumb:

I agree Shane. I've been waiting for the temps to drop in these last months of the year. Its going to be a very busy next few months. As Im typing this I read a text from my buddy about going to a west coast dsm shootout up north. SO very tempting.

I think very soon we will have a couple elite 10 sec 14b cars within the next year or so and some more to follow.

I know Brandon has been putting in a lot of work as Im always getting text on the progress. Speaking if he should be out running some time today.

Well, alright, fair enough! Thanks!

Oh man, that would be cool!

I've definitely been busy with those Talons. Thanks man!

Well, best of luck to you guys hitting new bests, 10's, record #'s, etc.

Had fun last night. Had some issues, but saw some improvements as well! My tow dolly is now about half broke as well. Feel free to look at my build thread in the Drag Racing section for a full update on the night and what I found. Here are the numbers from my runs:

60' - 1/8 time/ET - 1/4 time/ET

2.239 - 8.670 @ 85.342 - 13.328 @ 103.635
1.934 - 8.407 @ 84.427 - 13.109 @ 103.152
1.954 - 8.374 @ 84.886 - 13.106 @ 101.408
1.827 - 8.359 @ 81.804 - 13.290 @ 95.084
1.781 - 8.325 @ 94.757 - 13.295 @ 95.725

The car definitely had the 12.7-12.8 I was looking for, but the issues stopped it. It will be a bit before I head back...probably a month or so, maybe a little longer, but I'll plug away at the car as I can!

I won't give it all away, but Shane has a new personal best ET and has the best trap speed ever posted for an all wheel drive with 14b power. That number WAS 118.1. Congrats to him, he deserves it. I'm super impressed.

Well, that was your new baseline set of runs. It's positive. That last 60' is getting into the area for nice ETs. Hope you get the concerns ironed out and make your way into the 12's.
