So I am slowly learning the MS world. I need to tune my 420a turbo and get it running strong finally. I currently have a ms2 assembled from DIYAutotune and as much as I want to run it as a full standalone I have to keep the stock ECU for emissions purposes. We have the ob2 emission testing and I need to be able to pass. Other than the actual box itself and wiring it up I also saw you need to run sensors for the MS2 itself. What sensors exactly do I need? Also if there is anything else I will need please say so!

Most of the sensors can be shared, except for the intake air and coolant temperature sensors. Are you sure the system you have has been configured for the 420A application?

I had the tuning shop my car is at order it for me because he could get it cheaper for me. I told him I wanted the megasquirt 2 and everything for the 420a but he didn't get any sensors in order to run it parallel.

MegaSquirt-II EMS System - SMD PCB3.57 w/ Black Case DIYAutoTune.com

That is the ECU that I have for my car. What else do I need to run my 420a turbo parallel with the stock ECU so I can pass emissions?

Anyone??
The ECU has to have been configured for the 420A. If that's been properly done, you will need an intake air temperature sensor and coolant temperature sensor to run the ECU in parallel. All of the other stock sensors can be shared.

Keep in mind that your car will not be road legal if you install a MegaSquirt ECU.

It won't pass emissions at all with megasquirt?

It depends on how they do emissions testing in your state, which (if any) emissions equipment you disabled, and how well tuned the MegaSquirt system is. Being road legal and passing an emissions test are two different things.

My emissions is just an obd2 test. Basically if you have a code you won't pass and if you don't then your fine

What is the code for?

Damn! So I have to run my car on stock injectors..?

I really don't want to risk damaging my motor at all

You could run the MegaSquirt ECU as an extra injector controller, like the Hahn PortFueler. That shouldn't set any codes, unless the ECU also controls ignition.

In all reality, you shouldn't have any trouble passing your emissions. Wire the MS2 in parallel with the stock ECU (as mentioned above). All you need to do is go to the junkyard and get an injector pigtail harness and the coilpack pigtail. Wire those in so all you have to do to switch from the MS2 or the Stock ECU is change 2 plugs.

So if I get the pigtails and run those before my emissions test. How long before the test would I need to switch over and use the stock injectors?

What kind of intake air and coolant temp sensors are needed?

Maybe I can stop by some time and take a look at what you are doing.

That would be cool. The only thing that's left is buying the intake air temp and coolant temp sensors wiring those in, and then probably going to go to the junkyard to pickup the injector pigtail

I would run the car on the stock system for at least a week before your test. Youll want to make sure the car has fully warmed up and that you drive it for longer than 30 minutes during that time. If you just go the day before without doing what I just said you will likely fail.

As for.the sensors you need the GM ones for IAT and CLT. You can get those from DIY auto tune.

Yeah I know it takes like 100 miles or something like that for the status to be "ready" for a code that was fixed. My worry is running for a week with 550cc injectors that are running off of the stock ECU

You would have to switch back to stock injectors if you attempt this.

You can use a second set of stock sensors, or the ubiquitous GM sensors as noted above. SymTech Labs, DIYAutoTune, Summit Racing, AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, etc. all stock the GM sensors. Take a look here for part numbers:

How would my car run with stock injectors then wired to the stock ECU and megasquirt wired to everything else? Just really nervous about damaging my built motor

Not so great while under boost.

I'm going to completely stay out of boost for sure. I ordered the sensors today with the bungs to weld in, I also found a friend who has extra stock injectors and the pigtail harness so I'm gonna get it all together and try to get my emissions done finally
