If Howell can offer a plug and play ECU (AFX ECU) it's obviously a flashed stock ecu & also there's a guy on the neon forums by the name of Kevin and he owns this syked tuning ECU.

If these guys are flashing our ECUS we need to all band together and figure out how they're doing it.

It was "impossible" then howell started doing it and some people got great ECU's, I however got a stocker with a sticker so I'm looking to get into the flashing game myself.

PCM (ECU) REPROGRAMMING
Mitsubishi vehicle engine PCMs (ECUs) have been equipped with reprogrammable processors since 1998 (except 1998 Galant). 1995~1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS & GS with 2.0L non-turbo engine (Chrysler 420A engine) ECUs have been equipped with reprogrammable processors since 1995.

To reprogram Mitsubishi vehicles, you must use one of two different reprogramming tools. For the 1995~1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS & GS (with Chrysler 420A engine), you must use a Chrysler Flash Reprogramming Unit, MIT992000-A . Click here to order one from SPX, or call them at 1-800-533-5338.

To reprogram all other Mitsubishi vehicles identified in the Mitsubishi ECU Reprogramming Application Table , you can purchase or rent the Mitsubishi MUT-III scan tool. Call 1-888-727-6672 for purchase or rent information, or Click here for more information. In addition to these options, you can use an approved J2534 solution for reprogramming. See the J2534 link at the top of the page for more information.

I remember not too long ago Bullet said something about a guy over on the neon sites figured it out with out using expensive OEM tools. I don't think he released any information other than he figured it out and can do it.

:hellyeah: You the man!

Yeah his name is Kevin. I sent in my stock ECU to him for re-flashing. He should be getting it on Monday according to FedEX. Will keep you guys updated on the results.

Looks like it's a lot cheaper than I expected.

Reprogramming Unit Kit- Mitsubishi

Cheaper than MS or Howells Scamish ECU. I can see how these guys are banking hard now! LOL

Out of curiosity, how did you prove this?

Search around for my thread. Shows you I received a broken ECU, turned out to be a stocker with a sticker. :thumb:

Anyways, who's down to do a group buy and get one of these legit Mitsubishi reprogrammers?

We only need a few of us and then we can offer legit tunes to the 420a community.

Responded to the thread, still havn't had my question answered to much on proof.

But I wish you luck in your endeavor. I can say I personally have talked to MS at the PRI show 2 years ago (performance racing industry show) and asked them why they have no made a PnP version of MS. Long story short, they could do it, but there simply is not enough of a market to justify it. Just giving you and FYI, still a good project if you can do it yourself.

Why do you want to figure out a way to flash our ECU's since you already sent yours to kevin??

I am in a bind right now for tuning my 420a turbo. I live in one of the only counties in wisconsin that has ob2 emissions testing. I have the ms2 assembled ecu right now from DIYautotune but have to run it parallel to work with the stock ecu and still pass emissions. What is this that everyone is talking about with the Kevin guy?

Is there an option for the 420a of tuning similar to dsmlink or using ecu flash for the evo's?

That's not the correct tool. If it were as easy as buying a $400 part, people would've been flashing their own PCM's a long time ago.

There's not a lot of information about it, but the tool you found look like it's for Mitsubishi PCM's, whereas the 420A PCM was designed and manufactured by Chrysler. There's a similar tool, the DRBIII, which can flash 420A PCM's with authentic Chrysler firmware; we've known about the DRBIII for ages--most dealers have one--but it's not all that useful for flashing custom firmware.

Kevin is using a tool that was used by Chrysler engineers. In other words, it's extraordinarily rare. He posted a short video of it once, but he took it down a few days later. Furthermore, he somehow got his hands on the documentation explaining how the firmware works. Kevin has made it clear that he won't share this information with anyone, so the bottom line is that he's got the market cornered for the foreseeable future. The 420A/Neon community has seen so much attrition in the past few years, I doubt he'll ever have a real competitor.

No, there's nothing like that available at the moment. There are two companies/entities/people (one that deals with 95 PCM's and one that deals with 96-99 PCM's) that offer re-flashed PCM's, but you have to either send them a core or send them your PCM and wait for it to be re-flashed and returned. There are no options for DIY tuning like DSMLink. The company that deals with 95 PCM's has indicated they will develop a DSMLink-like tuning system, but the company that deals with 96-99 PCM's prefers to stick to offering "canned" tunes.

Just found this thread, what company is offering a 95 mtx ecu? Or going to offer a dsmlink-like tuning system?

Dsmlink = megasquirt for the 420a. There's a guy on Facebook that flashes neon 420a and Srt4 ecu's. Look him up on Facebook, Kevin at skyed ecu. He says he can recalibrate our ecu's but no one has prove of said gains yet. But the neon guys swear he's one of the best with this stuff.

Last I knew Kevin was on the hunt for a 96+ ECU of ours and was gonna see what he could do. Haven't heard much since than.

From the sounds of it, 95 is the only year he isn't doing.... Which seriously blows ass since mine is a 95.... :( Hope it's not true.

Lol poor Jeff. Just drive your skittle around and enjoy the tune-ability ;)

As Jayson said, pretty sure it's just 96+, hopefully he'll jump in and chime in soon!

Lol, looks like I am forced yet again the MS route. I didn't realize work was actually involved with making these cars fast.... :D

solution: Upgrade to a 4g63 ;) ;)
That has nothing to do with it. With the exception of DSMLink, the engine management systems available for the 4G63 are virtually the same as the EMS's available for the 420A. And as great as DSMLink is, it's still forced to deal with the factory (i.e. 15-25 year old) hardware.
