Short version:
Can I use this Megan Racing downpipe (Amazon.com Megan Downpipe 1G DSM) and add on a 3" magnaflow high flow cat? Or do I need the Punishment racing downpipe that says it works with a cat? PUNISHMENT RACING 3" DOWNPIPE FOR ECLIPSE/TALON - Punishment Racing

Long version:
I found another surprise with my car today, the previous owner cut out the cat and poorly welded in a straight pipe. It's a mess. I wasn't planning on upgrading my stock exhaust for a while, but since I need to fix it to pass emissions, I might as well do it now.

My car is currently stock (14b turbo), but I'll be installing my small 16g later this year after I get dsmlink installed. I want a full 3" exhaust with a 3 inch high flow cat. I called a couple exhaust shops in Denver, and both were around $1400 for a full custom 3" mandrel bent exhaust (included cat, magnaflow resonator and magnaflow muffler). Not a horrible price, but I think I can get it done cheaper.

If the PR downpipe is my best option to use a catalytic converter, what turbo outlet / o2 housing do I need?

Thanks for the help!

RESOLVED - Went with a Megan downpipe, Thunderbolt CAT, MagnaFlow Performance Muffler 14239. No tip yet, looking for one that looks like a stock tip. I'll post pictures and video when it's all installed.

Both links you posted show the same downpipe. All you do is bolt the cat to the end of the downpipe, not to much complication there.
If I use the Megan Racing downpipe and bolt a cat on the end of it, will I have room to do that? I ask because that will be moving the catalytic converter location back about a foot or so.

It should be fine those downpipes are designed to replace the oem one and run with a cat or test pipe, in most cases. If your unsure just make sure you get one that says it will allow cat in stock location, but I don't see why you would have any problems.

"Please note the 2g version eliminates the converter the 1g version does not." From the link you posted so there's your answer bro! :) and as far as o2 housings you can upgrade to a 2g or evo o2 housing and port it or get a nice ss o2 housing like the ones punishment makes. It's not necessary but a good idea, plus if you still have the stock 1g o2 housing its probably cracked in a few spots and those are restrictive compared to the newer 2g and evo housings.

I would go with the PR down pipe and one of there 02 housings as well. Have flanges welded to a 3" cat, just get one that will be roughly the same length as the stock one after the flanges are welded on. Take a look at these Thunderbolt 3" Spun Catalytic Converter. and then pick whatever cat back exhaust you like or whatever is cheaper. You should be under 1000.

^^Thanks for the link to the Thunderbolt Cat. That's way cheaper than Magnaflows and it's still listed as OBDII, which is good.

Yeah I noticed the PR downpipe works with the stock cat location (which is awesome) but not the stock o2 housing. Which o2 housing would work with that downpipe and a 14b/small 16g? Got a link? I can't tell by the descriptions on Extreme PSi if they'll work together or not.

Well if its a true 3" downpipe than you need a 3" o2 houing. But most of the 3" downpipes have a 2.5" flange on the o2 side so you can use the stock o2 housing. Most have a 2.5" flange and pipe to the flex section and then go 3" after. My custom 3" downpipe is the same way 2.5" flange for the o2 housing and I bumped it up to 3" right away instead of waiting for the flex section. The downpipe in the first link is the same, 2.5" inlet flange then goes 3".

Ok, I think this one will work:

PUNISHMENT RACING STAINLESS STEEL 38MM ATMOSPHERE DUMPED O2 HOUSING FOR ECLIPSE/TALON - Punishment Racing

With this downpipe:

PUNISHMENT RACING 3" DOWNPIPE FOR ECLIPSE/TALON - Punishment Racing

**EDIT** Nevermind, I don't think I want an external dump o2.

I think I'll go with the Megan and just have the exhaust shop chop it if needed.

**EDIT 2**
Found it on Amazon.com for cheapest ($165 shipped)
Amazon.com Megan Downpipe 1G DSM

**EDIT 3** Ordered the http://performance-curve.com/410300.aspx Thunderbolt CAT

I talked to PR for you and there downpipe is a true 3" all the way, that's why it wont work with your stock 02. just get one of there recirculated 02 housings. then all you have to do is flange a cat.

Thanks! I appreciate the help. That was getting too pricey for me at this time, so I just went with the Megan downpipe.

Last thing I need is a stock looking dual tip muffler with a 3 inch inlet. :thumb:

Anyone know where to find one? I need a tip with a 3" inlet and stock looking dual tips. Something similar to this:

**EDIT**

Found one, I ordered this, the shop is converting it to a 3" inlet for me.
