I have the head off, I was prepping the block deck to reinstall the head. I rolled up shop towels and stuffed them into the coolant and oil passages to prevent scrapings from falling in. and after a blast of compresed air I blew one of the shop towels down into the block... cant vacumn it out nor pick it out with a paper clip... cant even see it, what should I do? is there a way to get at it from the under side? Its the smallest hole on the timing belt side, closest to the front of the car. It seems to widen out after 1/2 an inch down.. I might be screwed. The block is still installed. LEt me know stuck at this point. Shop towel is a 1 inch by 1 inch square maybe a bit smaller. Its the blue paper towel type shop towel. If I forget about it can it block off a coolant passage later and cause engine damage?

I would go to an auto parts store and get one of those snake deals with the claw at the end like the link below. Don't cram it down there but go little bits at a time and try to grab it. I can't imagine that it went down too far. If your head is of then it might be worth pulling your water pump and getting it that way. Sounds like that hole may go to your water pump. Good luck.

you might be a genius im replacing the water pump and ?I think the hole is right next to the water pump inlet, i never think of these thingsLOL well see

You can try flooding the block with water and hope it will flush it out the top to where you can grab it.Good luck.

If you get it out that would be best, if you do not, it will just shred apart from sitting in water and turn into fibers.

Try pulling the water pump, and flushing the water jacket with water, inject the water at the block deck coolant passage back at the rear of #4 cylinder, this should push it out the water pump mount in the front of the block.

Yea man pull your water pump off then run sum water through the block it will probly flush it out if not use MALaCasse's idea. Good luck LOL!

I'd try the "claw" first. If you can get it out, great. If not then flush the motor with water.
If you do it other way around water might jam the piece in there further, making it more difficult to get it out.

update: nothing worked.. decided to proceed and hope it disintegrates into fibers and gets flushed out in a month when I flush my cooling system. Had the car running for like an hour today, took a 20 minute drive.. seems to have no issues. Lets hope it stays that way, thanks for the advice anyways.
