Hey all,

Could anyone please provide me with a VIN number for a Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T from 1989?
It would make ordering parts SO much easier for me :)

This should help.

a 1989 GS-T would have the "LE" in the latter sequence of the VIN.

Thus, your VIN would be as an example: 4A3CS44UXLEXXXXXX

DSM's came out in October of 1988 as 1990 vehicles. Thus they all began with the two letter "LE" code prior to the six digit sequence numbers. You find this info on the sticker that is place on the driver's side "C" pillar showing the month and year the vehicle left the factory.

Also, if you look at the lower left of this sticker, you'll see a "MDH" showing the month, day and hour the vehicle left the factory. Thus, one could looks like this, for example: 032218 - March, 22 at 1800 hours (6:00 PM) of that Month and Year listed above.

My Laser came out in June of 1989 and it carries the "LE" code in the VIN.

LE = 1990
ME = 1991
NE = 1992
PE = 1993
RE = 1994

..for the 1G models.

My car is a plymouth laser (import from the US), so the mitsu dealer can't use my VIN number for ordering parts.
Thanks for the help so far!

And HIGHPSI4, thank you for looking.

p.s. and just for the record, I'm a she ;)

The Mitsu dealer/service dept should have all the parts listed if you give them what you need since 1G's used all the same parts outside of ones specified for each line, esp parts that have brand logos attached to the respective part - like symbols stamped on certains parts.

E.G. :If Plymouth/Eagle specific parts are needed, then do a Dodge dealership you would need to go.

The first VIN does not show up for me in CAPS so I can't verify, but the second VIN is not a car built in 1989. Not that I think it matters but hey.

Here is a GST built in 1988: 4A3CS44U4LE000485
And here is a GST built in 1989: 4A3CS44U4LE005234

I saw a 1990 GSX out in a yard with the VIN of "LE000747" - built in October of 1988 from the info on the pillar sticker.

"LE026617" .. is the last sequence for the VIN of my Laser ... built in June of 1989

Year/Make/Model: 1990 PLYMOUTH LASER RS
VIN: 4P3CS44U8LE114457
Year/Make/Model: 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T
VIN: 4A3CS44U9LE111081

Looks like both were built in early 1990 - February to April since we still are showing the "LE" for the 1990 model year.

If the GST was a GSX, then the "44" would have been a "54 and the "CS" would have been a "CL" for the AWD option.

Look on that sticker that I mentioned and one can see the Month and Year manufactured.

For the 1990 model year. In later 1G models, the "54" was often used for the GST and "64" for the GSX. And I'm sure you mean "CT" or "CG", not "CL". The "L" in that position (5th digit) didn't show up until the 2Gs. Of course this can all be found here for those interested: Decoding VINs.

Also note that it is the 10th digit and the 10th digit alone that calls the model year. This "LE" = 1990 stuff, while true, is misleading. It is the "L" itself that distinguishes it as a 1990. Every T/E/L has the "E" there, even the Euro versions, because they were all built in Normal, IL.

Look on that sticker that I mentioned and one can see the Month and Year manufactured.

This only works if you own the car or can physically look at it. Since the OP does not even own a GST but instead an RS Turbo and requested a GST VIN, then the build date on the sticker of her car is irrelevant.

I think that was all that was needed. Just a number for a 1990 model............

Thx for the correction - forgot about the VFAQ site on the VIN, yet what's interesting is the engine code where the "B" has the question mark.

That's the 1GB's code for the 4G37 where it shows the 1GA with the correct "T" code.
