I am trying to get a pretty good setup started. I have an extra head that is getting worked on. I have BC springs and retainers going in it. Havent decided valves and guides yet. But the question is with a 2.4L and for a daily driver are HKS 280s really to big? I couldnt find much other than people running the BC 280s. I have a HKS t4 mani and most likely going to stick with a GT35 turbo. I am also getting the 280s for dirt. So price of the cams is not a big deal in the build factor. I really just want to know if its worth to spend the money for the 280s or just save up for HKS 272s or the FP2s?

Have not ran the 280's personally on a 2.4L but our 2.4L LR with K272 cams is a blast.. The car makes monster torque and great power in our Evo on a 16g @14psi 348 hp and 399 ft/lbs... we also are on 10:5 comp pistons and E85

Here you go.. This was on a AWD Mustang dyno.

Nice! I like the steady power from 4k to 7k. My only issue is I don't plan on running a 16g. I wonder how that would look with a 60mm wheel or bigger only because of the lag. Obviously, I want a usable power band not stupid power from 6k to 7k then its time to shift with the 2.4L

Correct.. but your power band will be better with the 2.4L then any 2.0L or 2.3L possibly think about going with a 4G64 de-stroked 2.2L so you can rev it higher?

I would love to destroke but I already have all forged internals in the 2.4L. Plus 94mm crank and 156mm or 162mm for the long rods would be pricey. Especially since I am really only looking at the cost of cams vs whole new bottom end setup.

Well if you make a Cam decision let me know I should be able to get you a really good deal :) just message me when your ready..

HKS 280's are too small for your setup. Yup, too small. Your 2.4L needs more lift and duration. I would use something like Kelford 280 or 276HL's. Shoot me a PM about your complete setup and what you're looking to do with the car, and I can pick out a camshaft that's going to be the best for your application.

That's weird I ran BC 280's on my 2.4 & loved them, the 280 lift on BC cams is around a 272 on most other cams & I loved the low to mid end torque on them. I was only revving the engine to 7.5k so I can't speak on the top end . It spooled my 3582 to 32psi at 4,700 even

I'm not a fan at all of BC cams. They are roughly the same size as some "272's", and they probably did give you some decent low-end, but you definitely could have had a much better cam for that combo.

Camshaft choice is greatly dependent on intake manifold and turbo choice as well, not to mention where you want to powerband/how you want it to "feel".

If you build a 2.4 because you want a low-end torque monster, and don't care much about having it pull to 8k, then of course you'll want a smaller cam.

But ideally, you will balance turbo spool, intake manifold, and camshaft to make a massive powerband.
