Hi, I've recently been getting more into plasti dip. I've done my rims before and they came out perfectly fine...maybe this is because they are a smaller surface than which I wanted to do this time. I tried to plasti dip my hood and it came out all rough and patchy, if anyone knows why it did this and can respond with help that would be great!

Did you use the can, or did you order the spray gun kit? I am going to assume the can, because I can see all the spray marks! My buddies plasti-dip whole cars with the spray gun kit, and they look just fine. Nice, even coats. Make sure you do not get to close, or it will start to run.

Yea, I would say you sprayed too close and used a can too long. If you want a perfect look I would use the spray gun kit or use plenty of cans and don't try to salvage every last bit out of the can.

That would definitely be from uneven coats. A spray can covers small areas. As mentioned the gun is gonna be the way to go.

Why not buy a few cans of matte black paint and skip all the BS that comes with plasti-dip.

(flame suit on)

Use a professional spray gun. My friends hood looks exactly like yours do to a cheap rattle can.

Black hoods are for black cars. If you really want a black hood why not just either get a carbon fiber one or just rock a white hood

I would love to get a carbon fiber hood trust me! Of course with me going the cheap route I guess shows the repercussions LOL, but in all honestly It's the cheapest route and if I did it right I'm sure it will look fine! Thanks guys, I wonder if I buy the thing that attaches to the spray can, if I'll get better results?

I've done my hood matte black as well with plasti-dip and by the looks of it, i can bet you were going to fast with every layer of black. I would suggest you go a little slower and follow the cans directions as for how far away the surface. I would also recommend you get the DipNozzle i used it the second time i decided to do my hood and it looks much cleaner still had some streaks but hey what can you do if you do not have the money for the Prof Gun?

Heres the link for DipNozzle

Hope it helps...

A lot of it has to do with the heat too. I just primed my roof with Mar Hyde Ultimate 2K, and the first couple passes left dried primer dust all over the rest of the roof. The crap dries in the air, and leaves you painting over the crumbs.

I plastidipped my front bumper , just the cans and it came out perfect. I did however take my sweet time , numerous light, even coats.

its becasue of the size and shape of the hood plus how small the passes with the cans are

Hey , you forgot your bumper & hood :p
That looks pretty clean man. My black top is gonna need some maintenance pretty soon , might look at plastidip but I'll definently get the spray kit.
Dang can had my forearm feelin like jello

Ive used cans on rims sprayer on cars. The backpack however dipyourcaf.com provides. Not worth it. Stick to the little sprayer n fill more frequently. Definately beautiful for being on a budget

let me tell you right now, I just spent hours peeling it off today...huge pain the ass LOL. Some of it came off in little pieces and some came of easier, but over all not a fun day. Im either gonna get a new hood or figure something else out.!

You didn't put it on thick enough.

i used the 3 gallon pro car kit and with the sprayer 2 passes makes it peel like its ment to.
