I was bleeding my lifters with a buddy. We get down to the last two and he drops the lifter and the needle falls down into the oil drain on the head and down the block. Does this lead straight to the oil pan? How should I go about getting it out?

Wow that blows man.

First your friend needs to buy you some beer. :thumb:

It does go to the oil pan, but I would try and find a large magnet and hover it along the bottom of the pan and see if you can hear it. The pan kinda sucks to take off, not to mention putting it back on.

[troll] Some look for needles in haystacks. This guy is looking for one in an engine. LOL [/end troll]

Places like Lowes sell small magnets on a telescoping handle. They are under $5 usually. A magnet like that should be small enough to go into where ever that needle went. If not, they do sell magnets that are less than 1/4" round too. If even that is too big, go to Radio Shack. They sell real strong "rare earth" magnets that are really small. Epoxy one of those to sa small stick and you have a nice needle retrieval tool.

I have a rare earth magnet stuck to the end of a 1/8" dia aluminum rod about two feet long, its perfect for grabbing dropped tools in the engine bay and its much stronger than the parts store $4 telescoping ones. I've retrieved full size wrenches with it.

Reminds me of back in my framing days when we would clean up job sites after we finished framing. We walked around the grounds with a 200 oz subwoofer magnet on a broom handle to pick up all the loose nails... haha.
