English Racing finished up my car this week and was able to get the car out to the dragstrip tonight. I'm in Maryland and the car is still in Washington so Lucas English was driving it. Ended up finishing the night with a 10.19@134 with a 1.58 60' at only 26psi! That's a tenth quicker than my best 10.29 and matched my best MPH from last year at 8psi less boost! Also, no more nitrous on the launch!

Unfortunately Lucas was by himself at the track so no video or logs but the timeslip is below. Some more boost and work the launch a little and I hope to have a solid no nitrous 9 second AWD 1G auto! Hope I can bring a little heat to the DSE class this year at the Shootout! :sneaky:

You can check my profile for the complete mod list but here's a quick rundown:

ER 2.2L 6-bolt (Eagle 94mm crank, 10.5:1 Wiseco HD2 pistons, R&R 153mm steel rods, ARP hardware)
ER 2G head (GSC S2 cams, GSC std-size valves, Kiggly valvetrain)
Evo 3 intake manifold and 1G NT throttle body
FP3065 and FP exhaust manifold
FIC 2150 injectors and dual Walbro 255s on E85
Metro/ER built automatic trans and Precision 1G billet converter
Forced Four Shift Box
Hallman MBC @ 26psi
Eibach Pro-Kit Springs and KYB AGX Struts
15x7" Drag DR-17 Wheels and 235/60-15 M&H Racemaster DOT Slicks
NO NITROUS AT ALL

Total weight?

Just a hair over 3000lbs with me in the car (160lbs). Lucas is probably 180-ish. The car has a 6-pt mild steel roll bar and no plastics behind the rear seats but back seats forward is full interior. No sound deadening and a pair of Summit Racing plastic seats and harnesses.

No tubed front end, subframes, chopped interior, nitrous, or crazy compound turbo setups. Just a fairly small turbo and a good combination of parts. Though a nice 1G AWD front and rear tubular subframe and front end would be amazing... *cough* Vassil *cough Paul Volk *cough* :p

When are you bringing the car over?

Lucas and the crew need to fix a bad blow-by, high oil pressure issue. Needs a catch can really bad. I have one of Hal Landry's vented oil caps on its way to English right now and they'll get a catch can made up. Then a little more dyno and track testing and on the truck it'll go. Hope to have it on the truck in the next 2 weeks. Hoping at least...

Nioce!

Did it get dyno'd before it went to the track? numbers?

I don't have a sheet but Lucas said it made right about the 475hp it made last year on the dyno only instead of 31psi last year, it made the same at only 26psi.

The car made 476hp at 31psi and went 10.29@132, best mph of 134 last year at 34psi. All on the old 8.5:1 2.0L. This new 2.2L went 10.19@134 and 470+HP at only 26psi. So definitely a jump and lot of room to grow. :rocks:

Nice numbers good to see you also running 10:1 compression, I bet that has something to do with the less boost and at that power levels.. Not many of us run that high of compression glad to see those numbers, I'm barely having my 1st ever run at the 1/4 on the 13th but not as many mods.None the less nice car you got there.

nice setup. surprized they got it to spool without nitrous. the new compression on your engine is no where near 10.5. I calculate 9.3-9.4 rough gussing a light shave was done to both block and head. I have been itching to run a 2.2 liter myself as i have never run one. a little more tweaking and this car should go nines.

do the street slicks wear out fast driving them on the street or is this a track only car?

wait a sec I thought precision didn't offer 1g converters.... what are the specs/info on this?

this makes me excited as im going with the same engine/drivetrain but on 93pump with a twin scroll efr8374 and magnus v3 running speed density on a vr4.

what are you using to tune?

well done!

These numbers rarely impress me because they are all on gutted out race cars that weight near nothing. But yours numbers are extremely impressive and actually gives the guys that are currently building or planning to build their cars some real numbers.

Well, regardless of whatever the end compression ratio came out to be but the pistons started off at 10.5:1. I decided against the 2.3L as I wanted to gain the most displacement while keeping the best rod ratio I could manage. This 153mm rod 2.2L gives the added displacement I needed to take the nitrous out and still stall this 3065 nearly instantly and gives a better rod ratio than a 2.3L, long rod 2.4L, or 150mm rod 2.2L and I could re-use my standard 4G63 6-bolt block.

The car is 100% street legal. Tagged, registered, and insured. However, I don't drive it on the street much outside of some street tuning. I have driven it to/from the track several times and just need to air the tires up pretty good as they are bias-ply and very squishy sidewalls. I would throw my real radials on the car if I really wanted to cruise with it, though my converter isn't terribly street friendly.

To be completely honest, I don't honestly know the exact specs of the converter. Precision used to build 1G billet converters back in the early-mid 2000s and as you know, they won't build them anymore. I bought this one in 2009 from Scott at AMS who was going to use it in his 42R-powered AWD automatic Mirage. All he told me was that it was built to stall a 65mm+ turbo. I could BARELY get my 3065 stalled up without nitrous on my old 8.5:1 2.0L over the last 2 years. It took 10-15 seconds to stall to my 4500rpm 2-step and the transmission temp had to be sky-high to do it at all. So I used nitrous instead.

At the end of last year I killed an oil pump at the track which killed my crank and Import Face-Off claimed that the Forced Induction Sport class was moving to a single power adder. So I had to find a solution to get this turbo to stall up without the nitrous. They didn't follow through with those rules but I had already started this motor. Thankfully most of the classes at the events I want to run out here on the East Coast (just moved here in January) allow only one power adder, so my setup still fits perfectly.

I'm using ECMLink v3 with Speed Density to tune.

My car definitely is lighter than stock and it isn't a comfortable daily driver but still meets the street car classes 100%, including the DSM Eliminator class at the Shootout.

The whole "street car" thing annoys the hell out of me anyway. Tubed front ends, bias-ply tires, tubular subframes, small fuel cells, etc. are not things I would consider on a "street car". It's ridiculous to me. It's a game of "how much can you get away with?". No nitrous? Give me a break. I can name 5 different people without hesitating that use super tight converters so they can daily drive big turbo automatics and keep the nitrous handy just in case. Thousands of people use nitrous on the street everyday. But, the rules are what they are and my car fits them 100% even though I'm using some of those things as well. I'll go up against cars that I don't think fit the "street car" persona but I'll run them anyway without complaint because I enjoy racing and I'm not afraid of racing anyone. Not Drew Jones, Tim Zimmer, John Whalen, Deric Dupey, Adam St. John, or anyone else in the DSE class.

I'm not saying I'll beat any of them. All I want to do is be the new guy at the Shootout and ruffle some feathers in the DSE class. It's fun. :)

LOL sounds like a fun 10 sec street car.

I drove my car clear across the state last week(140 miles one way). I have a 15 gallon fuel cell and I average 18mpg. I could make it all the way there on one tank easily. I never ran nitrous or never will. I could spool the compound setup on stock converter with 5 secs or so. I finally just bought a precision converter. So essentially my setup will spool just as fast yours and make 200+ more whp and I can drive it across the state. How can you get a better street car than that?

The whole street car thing is simple. If it has lights, dot tires, wipers, windows that go down and mirriors its a street car.. end of story. I drive my 16g car everywhere. Sure its loud, I cant hear anything over the fuel pump, it sucks to get in and out of, but if u can drive it to the track, show, movie, ice cream or whatever its a street car. The whole no spray thing makes it interesting I guess, but I'm with you. Tons of street cars have spray. Congrats BTW. It will be interesting to see what happens when you turn it up!

I hope you didn't take what I said as a personal shot at you. To be honest, watching you win the DSE class last year was inspiration and motivation to build something to compete with you. The others I mentioned are the ones that people really are afraid of/gunning for in DSE. Competition breeds competition. You guys are the quickest/fastest in the class and I can only hope to put myself among you.

I have my own opinions about the "street car" stuff but I completely understand the concept. It's never going to please everyone so I'll just have to man up and come up with my own ways to gain an advantage while still meeting the requirement. Thanks for the compliment, and again, I have meant nothing personal to you guys or anyone else. This will be my 4th Shootout and I'm excited for my 1st Shootout with a car to race.

Can anyone post a link to the dse rules?

Nah man, I was just trying to plee with you about the street-ability of my car compared to some of the guys that run in the class. This class is the most exciting to me. I am hoping to see a low 9 sec class this year.

What rpm are you crossing the traps at? What shift rpm? DSE is going to be interesting indeed this year. Can't wait!

Low 9 second??? Come the F$$k on..I may as well just get drunk and watch. Ha

To be honest I'm not entirely sure what RPM the car is at through the traps with this new setup. I'm actually curious myself and would need to ask Lucas for a log. I'll start collecting more of that kind of data when I get the car here to Maryland. Shifts are made at 9000 though we're going to be playing with that.

Looking forward to the class as well!
