So I posted this ad Isuzu Rodeo Transmission on craigslist.

Tell me if the following chain of text messages sounds like a scam. It's sounding like it to me, but I figured if I could cash a legitimate cashier's check before sending the item then maybe it's not.

Oops, forgot to resize the pics.

hell no that's not legit.

it says right on CL when posting a sale "all offers for your item to be shipped, bought with pay-pal, money orders, cashier checks etc. are scams."

Your ####ing scum, Everywhere i see your posts your a complete jackass. I feel your life is full of misfortunes that you would enjoy to see someone get scammed just for your own self pleasing.

GTFO of here with your bull Shit.

OP; I would not do it. Offer him to pay thru paypal, or even better on ebay where you actually have full coverage. If he refuses its a thumbs down.

I think if I could actually get a cashier's check first and cash it then it would be ok.

But I have a hard time even sending out my address in the first place.

So I'm very unlikely to do it.

There's been a lot of talk on the local news here that if you don't know the person don't accept a cashiers check. When you cash it you are responsible to pay the money back if it is a counterfeit. I wouldn't do it.

Def seems like a scam to me. Never ever take a cashier's check if you don't know them. Also, when people ask you to ship expensive stuff and they don't try to talk you down at all, they are either stupid or scammers.

I once had a guy ask me to ship my ps3 I was selling to south Africa. He said he would give me my asking price plus $150 for shipping. I told him if he wanted one that bad to buy a new one for less than my 1st gen and that scammers were the scum of the earth.

If you have to ask man. It isn't worth it. Just trying to keep you from getting screwed. You've been here long enough to atleast count 5-10 threads asking the same thing and some have ended in tragedy.

I have seen the limit on the "trolling" and apparantly there isn't one.

Yes that's a scam. They can't even use proper grammar, and don't ask many details. I was selling my link v3 package for like $500. Some "guy" offered to buy it and pay for it via western union, using the very same grammar that you got from your texts, and I politely told them either i deal face to face, or use paypal. Never heard another word.

At whiplash, you should be banned from this site. You are useless. What is the point of any post you have made in this forum? Do you sit in front of your computer, eating twinkies and getting some kind of weird self-satisfaction from your useless banter? Get a life...

I passed on it.

See, I never knew this part of it. I thought that the banks checked to ensure cashier's checks were legit and not counterfeit. I thought that was the point of them. If I had known this, then the question would never have come up in the first place.

Nope. Best you can do is accept it, don't cash it or ship what it "bought", and use it to try to catch a potential scammer. Not even sure that will work. Best advice is always insist PayPal. I always put that on all my ads. I mean a PayPal account takes what, 15 minutes to setup, and there are plenty of free prepay credit cards out there

I wish I was as old as you. Then maybe I could afford a 20 and 17 year old car thats on jack stands. Looks like you really have your life together. :shhh:

Not everyone can affored a 10k$ dodge avenger they are paying 20k+$ for on the miles program. Just saying. O wait "I'd better go paint my black bumper"

Am Linda.
Am buying it.
Am thanks.

Anytime I accept a cashiers check from a stranger online, I verify its legitimacy prior to shipping the product. Fifth Third bank will call the bank that it originated from to verify it's legit and that funds are available. And with my credit union, I just have to deposit it and wait 3-5 business days. If it comes back as a fake (hasn't happened yet), they would just take the funds back out of the account and I would still have the product in my possession. Most buyers will understand if you inform them that you're going to wait for payment to clear before shipping anything.

But naturally, it's nice to spot a scam coming and avoid wasting time with it all together.

Do exactly what he said.

If a buyer is legit, but wishes not to use Paypal, he will have to understand the wait times associated with the different payment method. If you ever come across a situation when a buyer is in a hurry and would rather not wait, something isn't right.

Even if I was desperate for cash, I'd rather wait out a sale and possibly lose it than risk getting scammed.

This is a common type of scam circulating on Craigslist. They have a way of re-obtaining the money - a quick Google search will explain it all. I generally stick away from these types of messages in regards to something I am selling on craigslist. You can go through the hassle of verifying it, but when is the last time a Woman bought an Isuzu Rodeo transmission from several states away and been Legit about it?

-shrug-

Some may say you were smart for passing on this while others would say you missed a great opportunity to ship a Nigerian some bricks and dog sh!t.
