Hey guys I'm new to this site and do not know much about cars besides the basics.
Anyways I just bought a 2g 97 Gs no turbo. It has 169k miles on it.
It needs alot of work but it was defently a steal. It was one owner but it's still completely stock(will change that).

My buddy got a brand new car for his graduation gift and I bought for 500. Havn't had anybody look at it yet but for 500 I said why not.

Basically I'm going to replace everything or atleast that's my plan.
Money is not a issue. I want to drop G's on this car.

So here is my question;

What are the basic things I need to swap out before adding mods. I kinda want to just take it to a shop and tell them to fix everything that's needs to be fixed, but they will probably charge me out the ass.
Ill post a few pics for you guys. It needs a paint job and some body work but I don't care about that till it's good under the hood. It runs and drives great, sometimes it jump at 1st or 2nd gear(sadly it's a automatic) and rarely it shuts off after I start it.

Sorry tryed to post 4 pics but it only did one so here's the engine

It depends what your over all plans are for the car. Obviously start with fixing the tranny and then I always do full service on every vehicle I ever get but doing the work yourself on the easy stuff will add up and save you a ton of money. Plugs, wires, oil, tranny service, belts, alignment, radiator flush, ect. Make it run perfect and then mod.

Well I would love to evenly put a turbo in it but that will be later on. I'm going to make it run perfect first. If I would want to make it manual too. What would I have to buy in order to do that. I know for sure I would need a new transmission. I'm on my way right now to buy that Haynes manual

id say if your transmission is crap an your wanting to switch to manual now is the time to do it,

5 speed 420A transmission
Transmission mount
Shift cables
ECU
Shifter
Master cylinder
Slave cylinder
Clutch fluid reservoir
Clutch Pedal assembly
Brake Pedal assembly
Shift boot
Shift knob
Clutch
Flywheel

then once thats fixed you could save up to get your engine rebuilt to hand some boost :thumb:

Trans, master and slave cylinder, with the line, clutch and pressure plate, a dremel with a rotary burr for cutting the holes for the master cylinder, and possibly the ecu(not needed, but it does bump the rev limiter up). I literally went to pull apart, bought all this for $120, did the swap in a couple days, and sold my old auto trans the next week for $200

Iowa beat me to it. The auto flywheel is the same, so not needed. Completely forgot all the shifter crap LOL

Thanks man that's a big help. You have any idea of what I would be spending?

My bills are super cheap, only paying 175 for rent and a small phone bill. Also insurance and that's it LOL so I plan to spend all my money for now on this car.. I have two jobs so money won't be a issue right now.

best bet is to get it all from a junkyard or pull it honestly, seems to be way cheaper to do it that way than any other, an while in the process of doing the swap id recomend putting in a new clutch that isnt worn out, and also make sure you use mopar nvt350 fluid for the trans as thats the only fluid that has been proven to work with out trans,

this is the post I want to be making. :'(

Yeah do the manual swap. It's super easy man. I did my first 5spd conversion when I was 16 on a 98 rs. Piece of cake. I found all the parts I needed at a salvage yard. Spent about $300 on the swap. Just remember to ground the park neutral safety wire coming off the ecu if u reuse it. If ## gonna have the car down. Might as well build the motor if not for boost then for life. If u build the motor now, with std bore internals just better internals. Then when u do decide to boost, the motor will be make for it. Just my 2c
