Hey guys, I was just brainstorming on ways to make a little extra money, I found everything I need to make a decent intercooler sprayer kit with a push button. It would be push button, a clear resivor, some wiring, tubing, a pump, a connector, and 2 nozzles. Does anyone think there would be any interest in something like this? I know it's not the most practical mod but its something kind of neat and if you race your car it would definitely be a worthwhile kit to have, plus you could show all your friends how cool you are.

I can piece the kit together and would be able to sell it around $40 on ebay.
If anyone would be interested or think its a good idea please give your opinion. I would also probably include a small instruction manual and maybe a custom sticker with a logo for the company on it. I realize you can peice your own kit together for less but this would be hassle free and I would give the best service I could.

Opinions?

Im sure people would rather invest in a meth kit or just convert to e85. The Intercooler sprayers do show results on a dyno, but thats on a stand still not actually proper cooling to actual speed.

My thoughts.

I couldn't agree more that a meth kit would be a great option, however, a meth kit is $300+ and my kit would only be $35-50. Why not have both?

Spraying water on the intercooler will cool the core initially, but large droplets are thought to block airflow and decrease cooling efficiency while moving. In order for it to be effective, you would need a high pressure pump and a nozzle that produces a very fine mist. And if you go that far with it, you might as well inject it into the intake and get exponentially better results.

With how cheap and horsepower crazy the average DSMer is, if intercooler sprayers worked we would be using them already. Sorry to be a downer, but that's the truth. Not to say you couldn't still produce this kit, sell it on eBay, and rob the Honda guys blind. But you won't get much action from DSMers.

Thanks for the input. I know that it's not a huge "bang for the buck" modification, but for people who do a lot of street tuning/ long races or autoX it would be helpful to cool down the intercooler and prevent or remove heat soak. Ill maybe put together a few kits worth of parts and offer them for sale and see where it goes.

It's been a while since I messed with any autocross but I dont think they're legal in SCCA. There is a really cheap kit on e bay that uses co2 rather than water. Kinda always seemed like a scam to me. Good luck with it, if you can make it work well and show us some numbers I'm sure someone will buy it.

Hahaha no, not really.

Having owned a WRX and installed water spray to it from an STI I can honestly tell you it does work well with repeatable results staving off heat soak which is common due to the location of the intercooler on the scooby- Just make sure the water tank is a decent size and it's not mounted in the engine bay like a lot of other home grown kits I've seen- The warm water completely defeats the point of the system in the first place- Plus just as a mention if it didn't make that much of a difference in performance then I doubt Mitsubishi would've equipped the EVO with a water spray system as well-Just sayin'....... My opinions are this- The people who use your system will be those on a budget who want a viable answer to a heat soak issue they have without breaking the bank- most DSM guys will turn up their noses at the system because it isn't what their cousin's, brothers, uncles girl friends, father runs on his 9 second street legal Talon. Some of us are just far to set in our ways to deviate from whats been before us as the recipe for making x amount of power, or running x times at the drag strip. That said I still have my water spray set up from the STI and I plan to run both it and my CRY-0/2 system on the front mount I have set aside for my GST because the set ups worked so well both independent and together.

Make the system and sell it- You may not get a lot DSM guys buying it, but there are plenty of other people out there who will. I have a friend who I turned on to water spray across the intercooler damn near 10yrs ago and he still uses it to this day......and he runs a single turbo MK-4 Supra............

Good luck with it brotha-

Also there is a sprayer kit I know of but its a nitrous express product that sprays across your intercooler to cool air also using there nitrous system runs about 300 or 400 with a proven hp results posted on there web site. Have not tried it yet but thought I would through it out there.

Call me crazy, but I've never been a huge fan of meth kits because of the risks associated with the tank running dry if you forget to check (I've seen a few blow ups this way). I'd as soon just put together a proper fuel system for the power I'm after and forget it- That said if you buy a "cheap" meth kit you're really kind of asking for trouble. When I do builds for people and they want meth I won't install the kit unless its a proper one from Aqua mist with a low tank level warning system and I always have my customers purchase the large trank from AEM to ensure they won't be filling it every other day. The Aqua mist system may be expensive, but with that expense comes security- It will reduce boost pressure automatically upon low tank level trigger and protect your investment should you be in the heat of the moment and forget to check the tank. Should the o.p. decide to take up the challenge of making an inexpensive meth kit, make sure it has the safety features that will keep you from needing a rebuild from forgetting to check the tank level-

I used the cheap auqamist kit and it cost me my motor, the boost switch got stuck on some how and allowed all of the water/meth to be dumped into the intake, it hydro locked and bent a connecting rod. I will never use meth injection again on a car I care about. An intercooler sprayer, on the other hand, is 100% safe :). It's not like I'm trying to sell "hks 272 in a can". If you doubt the effects of it just go take your car on 5-6 1-3rd pulls and then feel the intercooler, then spray the intercooler with a garden hose and feel it again.

Or for those of you with data loggers, go out and see how many back to back runs you can make before you start getting knock, then use the water sprayer after each run and you'll see that you aren't getting any knock.

I've always wondered the same thing.. Some say it will destroy your motor if the system fails while the other half say the computer will immediately compensate. I'm not sure who to believe LOL.

Does this sprayer inject water internally or externally?

Do waste your time. You can not spray enough water to maintain consistently low iat. You ca not get to a lot of the area of the intercooler to make this method effective. The gain if any will not be worth your time and money. I would not recommend it for autocross use. You are just drip water onto the track and endanger other people and yourself.

I don't know how you hydro lock your engine with a meth kit. Ideally flow is limited by the nozzle jet. It is not like you are spraying it with a huge nozzle jet. The pump acts as a valve. Gravity itself limit the amount of meth/h2o that can enter the intake. The hose and nozzle positin keep the meth/water from draining into the upper intercooler pipe. Your chance of hydro locking is very unlikely unless you have the reservoir mounted on way too high.

When a ran spray I had my purge line ran to the ic to cool it off, but that was more because I'm cheap and didn't want to feel like I was wasting expensive ass n2o LOL.

Just make the kit and throw it on eBay, but I would deff advertise as universal and not Dsm specific that way the Honda kids would buy it. We all know how much the like cheap things that let's something happen when they push a button LOL.
