Just bought a 99 GST. Looks like the previous owner did some work to it. Exhaust, Manifold, BOV, 02 Housing, Turbo?, Intake, Turbo Timer. Just what Ive seen so far. The car runs good but not great.

I am looking into engine management options to see exactly what the car is doing.

Only I have no clue where to begin with DSM (this is my first one).

Any opinions and suggestions on which routes to go. Piggyback or Standalone? Should I reflash the ECU? Evo 8 set up? DSMLink?

What seems to work best or is a good route to go.

Mind you this is somewhat of a DD but will see the track of course on my weekends off.

Thanks!

DSMlink for sure.. Post some pictures of the car and parts you aren't sure about. First off unless the previous owner gave you detailed servicing, I'd give it a complete "tune up." Ie plugs, oil, coolant, timing belt and so on. Maybe somebody will recognize the car and give you valuable information about it.. Good luck, DSMs will make you a mechanic. Lol

Already performed maintainence on it. First thing I did when I picked it up. There are a few issues with it. Thermostat needs replaced Im pretty sure, TPS is going out, shifting into 3rd grinds every now and then, and rotors need replaced. After all that is fixed I really want to start putting this build together nicely.

Just so you know your ECU is flashable. If you want you could grab a flash cable, evoscan, ecuflash, put ceddy mods on it and play with it yourself. Check this thread out for more info. You can look at ceddy's page here too. Cheapest route you can go. About $200 give or take a few bucks.

Definitely take car of all maintenance first and make a plan for the car whatever that may be for you. I would get a tuning option first, but that is personal preference. That way you can begin tuning and optimize your set up.

Looking into flashing the ECU and DSMLink. Seems like I would be throwing a lot of money towards a tuning system that I wouldn't know how to use for a while, Flashing might be my best option right now knowledge wise.

Once I have the car tuned and get it running right I have a nice build plan laid out. Being over in Europe and with basically no AWD dsm options here the swap will have to wait, but I have a good majority of it layed out.
