living legend

I just read this thing all over again. I insist when can i see the car again. Are we having a meet this year?? :hmm::hmm:

yea are we having a meet this year??

I just spent an hour reading through the first page! I love it. I am located up at HAFB in NM, glad to see there is some DSM love close bye. Hopefully when I get back from my deployment I might run into you guys at the track one day. Let me know when you guys have meets and ill try to make it down there that would be really cool.
Thanks so much guys!! It's truly an honor to see my car on the homepage! As for the DSM meet, I have no idea. I am quite tied up right now. I could probably attend one, but not be in charge of setting it up. My wife and I are about to have our first child (literally any day now), I am in the process of taking over as the new Owner of DirtyEvo.com, and I am racing for points in a RallyX series in Tucson (DSM) and an Autox series here in El Paso (Evo). I'm having a blast but stretching myself thin at the same time and will have to focus on my Daughter once she is born.

Update on the DSM! In an effort to gain some more traction in the dirt, I dropped my wastegate spring down to 4psi, the lowest it goes. Also my BBG solenoid is set at zero so it will just be running wastegate pressure. Hopefully this will limit some of the power I'm making. For some big news, I have a set of used Pirelli P-Zero gravel rally tires that are in the mail and will be at my house on Thursday (HUGE THANKS TO JT, aka jtmcinder!). Those will be going on my 15x6 steelies and should be a huge improvement over my current 17" max performance summer tires! :D

My next RallyX is on July 13th. I was tied for 1st going into the last event and am currently in second place, down by 16 points. Hopefully with these tires I will be able to make a comeback!

You had this thing on a scale this year yet?

Yes Nate, sweet pics for sure from the AZ rally group homepage! :thumb: It's truly amazing to see a 1g that is that clean playing in the dirt!OMG Best of luck with that new baby girl.:)

I'm glad you brought this up as it reminds me I need to get this done. I'll try to get it done before the next Rallyx. I'm guessing 2100, lets see how close my math puts me!

Thanks so much! Honestly despite all the dirt and mud being thrown around, the car stays pretty clean, especially the engine bay! I've had no damage whatsoever after two events and just a wash in the driveway (paying special attention to the wheel wells) and vacuuming out sand from the inside and it looks just like it did before.

What a cool story. Linked by a friend. (Haven't been around here in ages.)

Shame I didn't hear about your tire situation sooner. We've got something like 40 used rally tires in the shop up here in Phoenix. Lots of 1G DSM stuff we're never going to use either (3 GVR4s and a Mirage/EvoIII build).

I know you're dumping weight wherever you can, but if you need any 1G-specific bits - chassis or otherwise - drop me a PM. If we've got them, they're as good as yours. I might even be able to deliver to Tucson for the next rallyx.

Also, this thread makes me wish I had something to rallyx in. SWB Pajeros aren't really meant for tight, high speed cornering, ya know?

Hey Brian, thanks so much for posting! I just got my rally tires in and mounted today actually, Perrelli P-Zero's in 205/65/15's in K6, KM6, and K2 compounds. However I would love to have a contact (semi-nearby) for tires in the future!

(Rims were half white and half black so I could decide which color I wanted. As soon as I saw mounted them I knew I was going with white!)

Also today I started a swap from my previous suspension, KYB AGX's with Eibach Pro's, to the stock Evo VIII struts and springs.

The things left to do on my list at the moment are to get a better suited rally seat (currently using a summit racing drag seat) and a roof vent (as you know it's ungodly hot in Tucson and with bolted in Lexan windows there is no air flow). The next event is in Tucson on July 13th.

Very nice!

With the sale of my caged GVR4 pending, it looks like I'm not going to have much high speed fun on dirt for a while. I'm content, however, to see more Mitsubishis leaving the tarmac behind for sport. Can't let the farty-blues take over!

PS: Used to live in El Paso, too. Van Horn Drive, down the street from Omar Bradley Elementary. Unless they tore it down or re-painted it, it's the big red box you see off in the distance to the left when you're coming back over Trans-Mountain. Good times back in the 79924.

Ok awesome! I've been in El Paso for the past 7 years now on the east side. However I have spent a lot of time in Tucson over the years for work.

If you like seeing Mitsubishi's leaving the tarmac, I implore you to check out DirtyEvo.com. I am the new administrator over there and am in the process of taking over as the owner. The site has been a little dead for a while but I am working hard to bring it back and it is already seeing the most activity it has seen since 2009.

Spent the last 2 some hours reading this entire thread. Very inspiring with tons of great ideas for my future TSi build, but bittersweet at the same time(aka holy sheeeet this dude is dedicated). I am almost half-tempted to get something to rally with for fun now, but TN just has a bunch of muddy grass holes. I guess there was one good thing about Phoenix when I lived there, I just didn't know it.

Also, how's it going Brian? I haven't seen you in a while. I'm Fossil from the az2gnt board(now dead). Just recently started coming back to here myself now that I have a toy in the garage. :D

Great thread man, I go to Fabens pretty often, I was there this past weekend id like to check your car out the next time I go down there if you don't mind, very interesting vehicle you have there bro.

Haha, thanks man! I'm hooked on the RallyX now and am actually looking into organizing a local series here in El Paso for next year though the SCCA along with a local Evo buddy. I know the Tennessee Vally and East Tennessee regions have rallyx series you should look into:

Thanks! Oh nice! Sure man, let me know next time you are in town.

More RallyX prep!

Big news, I got a set of used rally tires from jtmcinder. 205/65/15 Pirelli P-Zero Gravel tires! These are a perfect fit on my 15x6" steelies and should make a significant difference when it comes to rallycrossing.

Next up I got an idea to use my old Evo VIII GSR suspension (struts/springs) on my DSM. I spent a few hours getting it done only to find out that it is super stiff and lifts it too much in the rear. I am probably going to leave it on for the next rallyX in July but I am already trying to figure out a better suited rallyx suspension. Here are a few pics, for the whole project check out my thread on DirtyEvo: Evo VIII suspension on a 1g DSM - DirtyEvo.com - The EVO and DSM Rally Forum!.

My next rallyX is in Tucson on July 13th. The season is halfway over and I'm currently in second place in Modified 2wd and I'm hoping to make a end of the season comeback!

That things got more clearance that my Ram 1500. LOL It actually looks pretty cool like that. Good luck in the dirt!

Haha, thanks! I think the front is perfect, just the rear is insane. It's not just the height though, it is stupid stiff.

All awesome stuff! The car looks the part now! Good luck!
Thanks Phil! It's definitely looking more like a rally car with the gravel tires, 15" rims, and ground clearance!

Come on nate, even i know using an evo suspension in stock form leaves the ride height too high.:tease:

Loving the new wheels tho.:thumb:
The stock Evo height is what you are seeing in the front and I think that is perfect. The problem is in the rear because the AWD struts (EVO or DSM) are physically longer then the FWD DSM struts because of the entirely different rear suspension setup. That is why it is twice as high in the rear and has that exaggerated raked appearance.

Thanks! I can't wait to see how they perform at the next Rallyx!

For rally x tho I think the ride height might be fine. You may get some unwanted body roll. But for rally x you really dont want your car sitting too low, or your gonna F somethin up.

But same story on the road too.If your car is sitting on the ground and you hit a bigass pothole, thats a bad day.

The other main issue is how stiff it is. I don't think there will be any body roll whatsoever. This suspension is designed for a 3,200 lb car and is now installed on a 2,100 lb car. It needs another 1,100 lbs pushing down on it to even do anything, LOL. So as long as the course is flat it will be fine, but if I get into bumps then the suspension will not be functioning adequately.

Welcome! I just love it man. And your progress and dedication I admire. Hope you can pull off the top spot in your class for this season...

Still looks kinda cool lifted like that, and I just noticed the dent by your driver's door, you gotta get that fixed! LOL

Couldn't you have the rod for the rear strut cut down and retaped? Might make the rear more stiff but should bring down how high the top of the spring sit and drop the height of the rear.
