Having a drivetrain noise sounds like a chain is dragging.

I am in des Moines, Iowa till tomorrow. When I get here, my car started sounding like I am dragging a chain. I have looked underneath and my dust shield on transfer case was off. I put it back on, now it don't make it out of gear. But in gear around 2.5k rpms that is when it makes the noise. Any help would be nice, and if your from des Moines it would be awesome if you could come and help out, and hear the noise.

I have shooked my driveshaft and it don't move much. When I was looking around they said if the driveshaft moves back and forth like a inch it's carrier bearings? I am going get back underneath it and check it out

It could still be the bearing. The bearing is encased in rubber so moving will only tell you if the rubber is good. U need to be able to jack the car up and spin the driveline over and listen to the bearing to find out if it makes noise or feels notchy.

Sounds like a bad transfer case to me. A few years back on one of my 2g's, when the transfer case went bad it sounded like a chain dragging on the ground.

When I was moving the driveshaft I didn't hear any noise from the bearings just rear dif and transfer case. Transfer case is louder, the shield came off I put it back on. But as I looked it is off again. I am going to take it off and see from there, but I am leaning to transfer case also.

the shield that I am talking about is the dust shield

Ok i did make it home without a problem, but with the noise it also makes it when I am switching gears. It isn't like the gear is grinding in but when I'm letting off the clutch. So i was wonder if something in the tranny might be out. Like the clutch might be warped?

I don't know because if I just put the clutch in and rev up a little i get the same noise. I just found that out.

Sounds like the throw out bearing. With the clutch pushed in, and sitting still nothing in your drivetrain is moving. It could be the clutch but either way youre gonna have to split the trans from the engine. Ive seen the buffer springs on the clutch plate work loose and fall out making all kinds of noise. That usually causes drivability issues. There are quite a few things that could be causing your noise but the fact that it still makes the noise when the tranny is for all intensive purposes isolated from the engine to me points to the clutch or throw out bearing.
