i believe you can buy JUST the lens, i bought a rhino welding helmet on ebay, and it started to flicker and flash when welding, so they send me another brand new lens to put into my helmet. i've zip tied the lens to my big ass galaxy note, but it doesnt work to well with staying stood up..

On an off note, i bought a big white tig cup! and ran a few beads today. Super stoked some of them turned out really nice i thought. As soon as my phone gets enough battery ill post them up!

Ok this took over an hour to upload and I chopped it down to 1:35 from 6:14. This is the start..... ill do the last minute and a half later so u can see the end. Everything in between the first and last minute and a half is just welding so ## not missing anything .....

Damn, cant see much. But it looks like you kind of pause and dab.

And i was dipping my filler like that and a buddy of mine told me it was "wrong" , but damn your welds look good.

About what was the amperage there?

what do u mean pause and dab? i hit the pedal, weld for an inch or so and stop. i dont pulse if thats what ## refering to.... thats what new guys do.

oh nvm 45 amps, are you using a button? i see you said straight 45 amps.

No, like you stop for a mili sec , dab the filler then move again. Very subtle but i noticed it.

ive got a digitial readout on my machine and use a foot pedal for throttle... and actually that was more around 35-38 amps or so as i was not into the pedal all the way while welding that.

well with the 1/16" rod i have to dip, wait for the it to heat up, fill and cap before moving on (because the larger rod cools the puddle) as if it were .045" or .030" rod i wouldnt have to as much. and i dont know what ## buddy is talking about its wrong unless he is talking about pulsing.

mike

no problem, what were u doing different then me urban? compression..... i use an invertec v205.

Sorry for like literally bugging the crap out of you. Eager to learn over here. i think what im really lacking is a steady hand.

Any tips for making your hand steady? LOL i dont smoke.

Nope.... well, rest ## wrists if u can, the further u get from ## wrists in terms of the resting point the more shake u will get in ## hands. .... Its geometry really.

finished the manifold today

When you go to backpurge a larger manifold, How long should you let a manifold purge before welding? and how many cfh? i tried backpurging and welding a small piece on my unwelded top mount, and i dont think the purge worked well, but then i tried on a small SS tube and it worked perfect.

Ghetto backpurge setup

Look for my posts in this thread. I have a chart somewhere.

Mike,
what's up with that large bulky torch? And why is there a gas valve on it?
Hit me up if you want something better.

Compression, is that a pressure regulator you are using? If so then ditch it. Use only a flow meter. The cfh on back purge depends on your entry & exit port on the piece you are purging.

As for purge time it is simple math. Cwlculate thre volume you have. Then obviously apply that to your purge rate and find out how long it takes to displace the air inside. Keep in mind argon is denser than air. Purge out point must be higher than the purge in point on your piece. Otherwise you will trap air inside.
