At what point does the cam journal become to small to use??

I used a pair of cams that were a lot worse. I just put the cam in a lathe and took some 2000 grit and wd40 to mine. there still kinda scrapped up, but I have been running them for over 2 years now.

I agree. Machine shop can fix no problem. Also check your cam caps/ journal. May need to be replaced .

I have seen worse. Polish it and call it a day. I have a buddy running ones much worse, with no issues. . .

Yep, a light polish , mic the dia of the journal and check for close to spec, and go on. All those scratches will do is hold a bit of oil.

That last picture makes it look much worse than the in the first post. If the machine shop said it was junk and didn't offer any solutions then I'd probably get a new set..

Maybe a place like Web or Delta camshaft can manage such a repair as they custom grind cams, idk if they add material though. It would either have to be welded all the way around, or ground down and have some type of sleeve put on to get back within spec.

Delta cams can spray weld onto the damaged journals and then grind them down to the proper size. Might not be cheap, but it will be cheaper than new cams.
