grinding my gears

My second gear grinds but not when i first start driving!

literally its perfectly fine for about 5 minutes of driving then i have to wait for the engine to rev down from 1st to second gear so it doesnt grind as hard

Its so annoying (it grinds my gears)

is there a reason it doesnt do it at first? perhaps its not as serious as one might think?:confused:
 
I'm guessing because it's not warmed up. Heat causes expansion. Probably need a new 2nd gear synchro setup. Or do what I do and skip 2nd gear...

yeah thats what i figured /:

hopefully a tranny shop doesnt give me an outrageous quote. Maybe i should get a new tranny off of classifieds

You might as well just look in to a rebuild. Most of the cost that will be associated with just replacing the 2nd gear syncro will be labor to pull the trans, disassemble, assemble, and re-install. At that point, spend the extra couple hundred for a rebuild and get it over with.

That's what I'm doing with my car. My second and third gear grind if I shift too fast and my clutch needs to be replaced. I figure if I'm going to pull the trans for the clutch, I might as well get it rebuilt and basically never have to worry about it again. Jacks Transmissions is who I contacted. I spelled out my goals and Jack recommended the stage 1.1 rebuilt with 4-spider center diff upgrade for the best driveability and withstanding 400+ without any issues. They even sell their rebuilds with a core charge so if you want to get the new trans swapped in over a weekend, you can do it. They just tack a $400 core charge on to the price until you send yours back.
 
+1 Nellio. Good luck finding a decent trans for a 1990, the spline count is different than all the other years (except the 91, some are some aren't). Jack's has the best prices hands down. Sheptrans also offers rebuilds for good prices. It all depends on what you're doing. If it's a daily driver or a track monster and everywhere in between.

Make sure that your clutch is disengaging properly. Google around for the clutch adjustment video, it's easy to find. Also check that your master and slave cylinders are working properly and that you are topped off on fluid.

If you replace the trans you just as well budget to throw in a new clutch. Check your axles too. Might as well throw in what needs to be replaced while you've got it all torn apart.

That's the direction I'm going. I've already got a pile of parts. New clutch fork, pivot ball, OEM TOB, Exedy stage 1 clutch, new axles from O'Reilly's, rear seal and gasket.
 
Hey i need help please! i have a 95 eclipse RS 2G and my clutch isnt working right when i start my car it wont go into gear but once the car is moving it will allow me to shift but once i come to a light or stop sign i have to turn car off ### once i put it in N it wont go back into gear once im stopped and when the car is off it gos into all gears and my floor clutch is easy to go down and i have brake fluid and i checked it but it still isnt working please help please!
