So, I popped open the ECU on my new Galant Vr4 (which was having some funny lean issues) and I found some ECU problems. Only it was not the capacitors that regularly go. I've successfully replaced those capacitors before on another ecu.

As you can see from the pictures, it is that black thing(s). So, I have an extra 91 GSX (though automatic) ECU with bad caps laying around. Could I just pull those of it it and replace the ones on the gvr4 ecu? I figure I will socket the eprom while I am doing all this. Anyway, I just wanted to get opinions on replacing that part. Again, I've done caps before and other computer soldering, I'm mainly just wanting confirmation that it would be compatible.

On a second note, I've tracked down a few places that repair ecu's, but I am uncertain if they would repair that part, or what they'd charge.

Anyway, I appreciate the help.

My friends 1g ecu had burned up the drivers for isc as opposed to the typical capacitors. That may actually be them from what i recall. I had just opened up his ecu out of curiousity before he sent it off to get socketed and i noticed it. Turns out the isc ended up ohming out bad as well.
"Steve" is in Illinois and hes as good as it gets with dsm ecu repair if he still does it.

I don't think he is...

I've been pretty inactive on this forum for past 4yrs or so, so im def not sure. Theres another guy local in my area that is good with them but i forgot his name. I can get his info from my friend if you need

Burned up the ISC drivers. Did you have idle issues before they fried?
They can be replaced with your surplus drivers but by you pictures you appear to have done additional damage. I don't know how good you are with PCB's but burnt traces aren't exactly easy to repair if you don't have the knack. Also, you want to test the ISC on the car to confirm that it is what caused the failure (most likely) and replace it as needed before you power up the repaired ECU.

Here are a couple of helpful links for more info. The second link has test procedures down near the bottom of the page.

IC105 is the driver for ISC coils B1 and B2. From the looks of it, those are shorted and the ISC needs replacing too. It's possible that the traces from pins 67 and 68 to the driver are also damaged.

Replacement drivers can be pulled from donor ECU's. I used to buy New Old Stock parts from overseas because pulling and testing them was time consuming but that's not an option for most people.

Sometimes the pins of the driver chip will weld themselves to the circuit board due to the current involved. Those are fun.

GIJoe is correct, I don't repair ECU's anymore.
