I have added a GTR class to the Shootout! With us moving into building and tuning some GTR's, the fact I've always tried to keep the event growing I think it's a smart move.

I think you are making a bad call on that. I'm betting a lot of people are like me and make the journey because its "our" event. Once you start including other cars its like every other race day.......and I can get that a LOT closer to home.

I gotta agree with this. I'm looking at making it to my first shootout this year. The big selling point with my long drive is the fact that its a DSM event, not just another 1/4 mi event.

DSE is going to be ridiculous again this year. I expect to see several mid-9 second autos. Hope to have mine well into the 9s by then and give them all a run for their money! This will be my 4th Shootout but only my first with a car!

Autos are the bane of my existence. But, Drew and I have some snky snky stuff to finish to give those auto cars a run for their money.

I completely agree with this as well. I think overtime that will kill this event. Start a GTR Shootout on a different day, but please do not combine them. I go to see and be around nothing but DSMs not GTRs.

They belong in T&T on that weekend, quit f@#king with a good thing.

I heard some of the same input from the DSM guys when I added EVO to the DSM/EVO Shootout title.

It's not like any other drag event letting another worthy car in. I also hold a Sport Compact Race in the spring, matter of fact a few weeks from now. It's open to any and all cars, more or less.

There were GTR's at the Shootout last year in Test and Tune, so they are there anyway. The only difference is I've added one heads up class for them to compete in.

I look at it like this, had we not added EVO's the DSM Shootout it would have dropped off or maybe actually have been gone years ago. They haven't built a DSM in 14 years, there are more EVO enthusiasts at the track now as there are DSM's. The EVOX's have not caught on at all, very-very few at the Shootout each year. Adding a class for GTR's is going to change nothing except bring in more sponsors (which it already has with Cobb) and more participants and spectators.

The way I see it is that it's no different than spending time with your dad on Mothers Day. This will be my 3rd year in attendance and seeing a growing number of non-4g vehicles race is discouraging to say the least. I understand that this may attract more people and therefore secure it's future but its cost is taking away from what most people drive hours to see.

It goes back to the age old question. . . Would you rather be surrounded by a group of people or be around some close friends?

I'd rather it be a small event than drive 4 hrs to see RX7's, Genesis's, and Tundras racing. I can go to the local strip if I wanted to see that crowd. Just my $.02

Well it's sad you don't see your dad on the same day as your mom when you visit for Mother's Day.....I don't either but that's what marriage has become, not sacred. That's another topic. In a perfect world you'd see both the same day.

So I'm attempting to make a perfect world. The Test-n-tune class was added because of DSM guys whining like babies they needed time to cool down their overheating race cars. Now we have a filler, Test-n-tune runs only when there is down time between rounds for the most part. So the whining guys who can't keep a car cool was what helped that along AND the thieving bastards who would sneak their "other" cars in for a pass without paying. Two birds, one stone, I get paid, the hot cars get cool down time because we can run time trials.

If the Shootout was DSM only, you guys realize it would be three classes, the gutted tin can stock turbo class I STARTED by request, DSM Eliminator which is all but dead and Quick 16 which would be like a Quick 8........in other words, the shootout would be dead and gone.

I'm not changing my mind, obviously because as with most things I've done to manage the race over the years, this too will be a good thing. They are there anyway, we need more racers to keep it running for more years.

Don't like GTR's, hang out with your friends like normal. Don't worry, they won't be kicking any DSM/EVO asses, they have their own class.

Also for what it's worth, there are no available dates for another event at Norwalk AND Shepherd is excited to have a class to run his GTR in.

I would much prefer to see Shep's 1G actually make a decent pass than see him run his GTR. It is what it is and I understand my opinion or anyone elses on this forum isnt going to change anything. I love cars in general, from Mustangs to DSMs, but it would be nice to strictly have just DSMs and EVOs at this event or anything 4G powered.

I drive 18 hours to this event to see my DSM/EVO family. And even if you have a 3kgt, or Galant, or 3g, you're still a part of what we consider "family." This is why its the DSM/EVO Shootout.

I think watching Shep's GTR run is awesome, its definitely impressive. As are some of the other non-Mitsu cars that ran in TT. I don't believe we should keep these cars from coming to the event, but they don't need their own class.

The only variety I would like to see at the Shootout with their own classes are non-DSM/EVOs with 4g63's in them. With DSMs and EVOs no longer in production, we're going to see less and less of them. If we start moving in other makes and models to the main event we wait for every year, its going to end up as just "The Shootout."

I was seriously planning on driving to this event, I'm at least 23+ hours away.

I'm now on the fence with going as i can go less than 45 minutes away and see the same thing at a local track.

Shepherd is excited to have a class to run his GTR in.

Hopefully he's as excited to get his Talon back up and running well to make some passes in it.

Mostly everyone on this board hates change even though it's inevitable. Do you see Dave removing classes for our cars or saying he's going to turn this into a GTR Shootout? I didn't. He just added a class - that's it. I don't see this turning into a TX2k where there are GTR's everywhere. If so, then we get to see some awesome cars roll down the track in addition to the awesome cars we bring. It is sad to hear that it's being changed, but it is what it is and we can still have fun and hang out with people who enjoy the same vehicles as us.

All you whining little bi**hes need to grow the f**k up. You'll see plenty of DSM's/EVO's racing. It's one small class and the GTR's are badass to watch. Most all the pioneers of the DSM/EVO world have stepped up to GTR's anyway, so why not let them all compete and have yet another little battle.. I think it would actually be kinda cool seeing if you ask me. You really think anyone is going to loose any sleep if you choose not to go?

The only thing I don't agree with in Dave's comment, is about DSE. I think that group is alive and strong. I think last year I counted 28 cars in front of me at one point. I think there would be even more if the exhaust rule was lifted. There are a lot of 9-10 second DSM's that run side exit or dump to the ground that can't hang with the big boys in quick 16. Maybe something to look at IMO.

Everybody just show up. Nothing's going to change for the worse. More people to party with and make the atmosphere that much better.

Couldn't agree more...
This will be my first time being able to attend, and it won't be DSM & EVO only. For shame.... Lol
I understand changes happen for a reason, but yeah...

You are right, it's one small class this year. What about five years from now? And really, calling people whining little b**ches that need to grow the f**k up? It personally sounds like you have some growing up to do. If you think it would be "badass" to watch GTRs race then go to a GTR event and watch them but not at the DSM Shootout. Nobody asked you if you thought it would be cool seeing it either but thanks for your opinion.
