Has anyone started there build (300-325hp) on a 4g63t with 112000 miles? Am I throwing parts an engine that's to tired? Even with a good compression test I'm still nervous

If you have done a compression and leak down test and get numbers within spec, don't see why not. Just would do a timing belt job (replace water pump, and so forth) and regular maintenance if you haven't done so yet.

As long as you have all supporting mods, a way to tune (DSMlink), go give her hell!

I say go for it. Even new engines can have problems. I would not do it if you know that there are problems going on though. Do a tune up and check timing belt as already stated.

My engine has 205,000 miles on it. My car has 273,000. I've beat the living crap out of it. These engines are tough if you do all the routine maintenance.

I run 25psi with a small 16g. I've never dyno'd the car, so who knows the exact hp numbers.

^^. Agree.
+1 on a timing belt job (wouldn't want that to snap on you)
Just get supporting mods and a good tune and you'll be fine
And keep up with the maintenance.

Got my car with 150k pushing about 330 hp on original engine

I did got the car right around 90k and ended with 240k running low 12's :) Motor finally let go due to number 4 rod bearing spinning then welding itself to itself then rod snapping and piston shattering and the wrist pin and half the rod flying out the side of the block LOL. This was my 7 th pass of the night that day and 15 years of owning the car. Still had stock headgasket and around 160psi compression in all 4, motor was never taken out of engine bay. But I do oil changes and Pm's all the time was right around 360ish hp.

Ooooh, and I forgot. Even with all those miles on the car, last month I still managed to pull a 1000 lb trailer more than 500 miles with me, a passenger, and a packed car (easily 800lbs combined).

Sure even the slightest hill put the car into boost, and the gas mileage was pretty poor (12 mpg), but it made the trip without even the slightest hint of getting warm (trans or engine).

112k is just breaking the car in :) A well taken care of DSM, or any car for that matter, still has plenty of life left at the mile marker. A close friend of mine is going low 12s with an original long block with a 177k on it.

I've never had one with over 130k on it, but would not hesitate to mod one that did. These are tough engines.

I'd say over 75% of the people on this board start modifying or drive a modified car with over 130,000 miles. It's rare to see under that these days with the age of them.

Do your maintenance and make sure your tune is on , that's the most important thing.

My buddy finally pulled his motor for a forged one after having 250,000 miles on it, on 25 pounds, on the 16G. Again, your tune is important.

If the car checks out, just do the maintenance and then start building the car up to what you want. Like everyone else has said, as long as the car is cared for, these motors will last a long time.

I bought my 2g in 2001 with 65k on it, but I didn't really start modding the car until around 80k. I still have the original 100% stock bottom end in the car that has never been touch and my car now has nearly 270k miles on it, a ton of drag passes, lots of autocross and road racing events as well. I never even pulled the head off the car until about 205k miles when I broke the timing belt :(

My own personal goal is to get my car to 300k miles before ever touch the bottom end :)

^^
Can't find the "Like Button"..

My had about 70k, and now has about 130k, DD it quite often. As long as you do your maintenance and take care of it, it can hold up to some serious abuse.

I have 95k orginal miles and im shooting for 400 ish awhp on stock block. should be finishing up this week with meth kit and such.

I just picked up my 97 GSX with 118K from a barn in Alabama....completely stock. Doing maintenance now and working torwards a 555HP DD.
