Long story short: 2Gb AWD Talons are RARE. 2519 were assigned VIN numbers.
My goal: Document them all! Which are dead, which are on the road, which have ABS, LSD, Sunroofs. What cars have what accent lettering color? What cars have what Option Codes?

Almost all this data is already in the old CAPS (not ASA) database and I am working to extract this information, and allow enthusiasts of these rare birds to contribute information about them!

Eventually, I would love to buy a bulk Carfax on all these cars (not the whole Consumer report, just City/State and whether they are still on the road or not).

Some teaser data:
These are ALL the Interior Code 79H cars - the interior scheme + automatic trans combo is VERY rare.

Ultra rare 98 AWDs with 78/79S interior code. 78/79S is probably tan carpet, black dash, and fabric of unknown pattern/color.

This is pretty cool I personally love 2gb talons and would like to see all of them documented! My next dsm I would like to own is a 2gb talon as its the only body style that I have not owned yet.

2519 minus crash-tests, museum pieces, factory lemons, donations to K12, wrecked, crushed, or modified beyond recognition. No doubt about it, these cars deserve to go down in history and the few stock low-miles ones remaining deserve mad respect!

Even if you don't own a 2Gb AWD, don't hesitate to snap a pic if you see one in a parking lot, junkyard, eBay/Craiglist/Trader, Cardomain.com, know a friend with one, what have you. At a minimum, the data I need to make the project meaningful is the last 9 digits of the VIN and State/City/Province. ALL further info, like pictures, videos, known to have a sunroof, ABS, LSD, etc is greatly appreciated.

Finally, a privacy statement: A VIN number not private data. I've had a few people think it's top secret like a SSN and won't contribute to the project. But seriously, I'm NOT asking for anything that isn't already available online, in CAPS or Carfax, etc. That said, if someone doesn't like their youtube video URL in my database, I'll honor a request to delete it.

I seen a few 2gb at the lkq on Peoria , I should've taken pics but one was a 420 car but the other was a awd tsi :( that was three weeks ago also.

Hey bro, don't know if you're still cataloging the Talons, but I hope you are. Got a nice pic of the sticker on the Talon I stripped parts from today. So sad to see it there, but it offered up parts to complete my Talon Spyder conversion. All I need now is to get more A52 paint and install the rear bumper and side strakes.

Was a '98 TSi fwd, auto in Eagle's version of Monarch Green. Wish I was the owner of it (in better condition of course).

Just submitted the form with the details for my '97. She is for sale, but I'm not going to give her away as she is way too much fun. I may end up ditching the '99 Sentra instead! :D

This is a fantastic project, and I have located Growly (yeah, I know...) in the database at #1669. Thanks for taking the time to put it all together for us :talon: freeks.

Thanks for the data sir! That car is one of 786 Black 1997 AWD 5-speeds with Tan interior. 780 of those are USA cars and only 6 are Canadian. 21 of the US cars in question share the same build date of 97.06.2

Thanks, but I am only doing the 2Gb AWD Talons, the FWDs are rare but not nearly so.

Wow, someone in Pennsylvania submitted (partial) info on a one-of-a-kind. Option Code G70, there are only 13 total. This one is a 1998 Wildberry (they submitted 1997, but it is a 98), the only G70 Wildberry.

Major update to the Google spreadsheet! I was able to procure "Last Known State", "Last Odometer Reading" and timestamps for all except roughly 190 of the USDM cars. Found about 170 with SCRAP/CRUSH junkyard records that I hadn't found previously. Only about 311 VINs have activity in the last 2.5 years.

2Gb AWD, in the USA. I'd say that is a fair ROUGH estimate. There are more out there that aren't street legal even though they're operational. Also, not all states are fully reporting this data yet so there are blind spots and "stale" data - for example, I found quite a few VINs whose existing data in my spreadsheet was more recent than what I gathered last weekend.

Rough figures for the USA cars with regard to time:
1772 total USDM 2Gb AWDs
-120 with no records found through any of my searching/queries
-877 that haven't been seen since Oct 16 2011 (33 of which are confirmed to be JUNKED)
-137 confirmed junked after Oct 16 2011
---------
= 638 non-junked VIN updates in the last 5.0 years

(311 non-junked VIN updates in the last 2.5 years).
Going back 10 years there were 955 "fresh" timestamps.
5 years, 638
2.5 years, 311...

I'll bet 2.5 years from now it'll be in the 100-200 range and then start to level off until all the remaining <100 end up in the hands of folks with the desire, skills, time, and money to keep them online.

Here's a good example of how rarity makes it easier to identify these cars in my database:

I just spotted this car on Craigslist:
http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/5822843421.html

USDM, Wildberry, 1997, 5-speed, gray fabric. That already narrows it down to 24 possible cars. This one has had the hood replaced, as evidenced by the red underside and wildberry top-side. The only one of those 24 to show up in Colorado (Jan 2015) is 4E3AL54F7VE170673, and it has a Collision record, so I am pretty confident that the car on Craiglist has that VIN.

I asked the seller for confirmation of the VIN, but just based on the pictures I am pretty sure I have identified it correctly.
