uhhh ya, well both, the regulator in a stock setup has a vac line to the solenoid. i eliminated mine also, but thats cause i have an Aeromotive A1000. Tapping into a line that has anything to do with fuel is usually a bad idea for something non fuel related.
A vacuum line is a vacuum line. You could tap into the one going to the brake booster if you want. Or the bov line, or drill and tap your own port. They all connect to the manifold and will work the same. Everyone just uses the fpr line, because it's closest to the steering column boot and it's the same size as normal vacuum line.
