I have a 93 eclipse gsx with the following mods, 880cc injectors, forced perforance exhust manifold, k&n airfilter kit, ported intake manifold, MHI Big 16g turbo, and 268 S1 cams :thumb:

I was wondering if anyone had a similar set up, and if this one is reliable for my set up and about how much gain will i get? Oh, and if I get it flanged i would do it for a HKS BOV. Also would like to keep my fog lights.
Thanks in advance. :hellyeah:

VRSF 1G DSM Front Mount Intercooler Kit FMIC 90-99 Eclipse & Talon Turbo 1G DSM

Did anyone find it odd that this intercooler in question did not state max psi rating, max hp rating nor the pressure drop specs? That's just what I noticed immediately. I would find it hard to purchase something from any company not willing to really describe their product... :hmm:

Agreed. Go with someone who actively supports the DSM scene and doesn't run to Evos and BMW's the first chance they get.

ETS, Punishment Racing, etc. These are all vendors you should give your money to.

I have a greddy FMIC on one of mines and it works good, allows me to keep my fog lights too. That's the reason I chose that on instead of VRSF, which from what I have read its the best bang for the buck, except you have to sacrifice one of your fog lights (at least on a 2g). + 2 on ETS and Punishment Racing as well.

That's because it most likely HAVEN't been tested at all. They do have a little more specs on their 2G kits though.

The VRSF kit has gotten quite a bit of good feedback, I have a 2g kit in my room right now and it is very nice kit. The Punishment racing kit is the alternative for around the same price which is also a proven FMIC. ETS is best but you will end up spending some more money for it.

OP I would recommend you go with the VRSF intercooler. It is the intercooler I almost bought but ETS had a sale at the right time and I hopped on that instead. There are people out there making good numbers with this intercooler. Also since it is short route you will be able to keep your fog lights.

I picked up the punishment kit for my 2g and its been great! you being a 1g, however, I would go with the VRSF kit. its more elongated vs. tall which = more flow and a better fit on your bumper.. plus it looks sick and you keep your fogs!

Actually the Punishment kit for 1G's is a superior kit to the VRSF kit.

If you people knew the shit Tiago talks about DSM owners, you'd be more inclined to give your business to people that deserves it. Spoiler alert: He can't stand any of you and might not even order any more DSM FMIC kits because of how "cheap" we are even though his kits sell like hot cakes here.

Ight, Thanks for the feed back, I'll check in on some more information and research the the fmic you all listed. Once again thanks.

The Chinese kids are currently training on the flow bench. Hang tight.

He simply stated that his parts for the evo community sell much faster and for much more. I don't think anyone can honestly deny the fact that the DSM community is pretty damn cheap.

When did he say that? He has always been nice to me and I've never given him a hard time about pricing. I have a VRSF intercooler and have ordered other parts from his site before. He's always been friendly every time I have emailed, commented etc...

Most of these budget kits are china made eBay specials anyway with small amounts of direct fit mods.

Get a quality intercooler if you want to make good power especially on pump gas.

ETS intercoolers are great and are worth the extra few bucks spent.
If not ETS, I'd go JMF, Shearer or Buschur and get a Garrett core.

For some reason this thread feels like im reading something from 5 years ago.

Id bet that the vrspeed kit is probably the most common kit on a dsm right now. They've been constantly on back order.

The kit fits great and the price is right. There's 600whp cars running around with this core on it. Just pull the trigger you will be fine.

I can't speak for keeping the fogs on a 1g, but I've had a VRSF front mount on my 2g for a few years now. The VRSF replaced my Hahn 'big' front mount, and with no tuning changes whatsoever, I picked up +30 hp & +30tq over the Hahn on English Racing's dyno. I haven't had any problems with the intercooler, and Tiago was nice to deal with.

IMHO, I do believe ETS(and a few others) is the gold standard with their intercoolers, but it's more than "just a few bucks" over the VRSF. More like 3x's the price. If money was no concern, then yes, I'd have gone with ETS, but I was on a budget, so I took a chance on VRSF.

I kept my fogs on my 1ga with the vrsf kit, not sure how much difference in fog placement from a 1gb though.

Forgot to mention going for 400awhp daily driver goal too... LOL. So sounds like this one I listed isn't the best?

Lolz!

If you want reliability, do not buy a punishment, vrsf, or and eBay brand (SS Auto crome. The intercooler "kits" are poorly designed and made with shody craftsmanship. The intercooler tanks will crack eventually, and the supplied silicone couplers and house clamps are usually trash also.

If you want an intercooler that will last a long time and perform the best buy an ETS. Yes they are expensive, you pay for quality. I also liked Buschurs kits.

Fair price? Yes.
Suitable for your needs? Yes.
The best? No. There will always be better out there, but are you willing to drop all that cash on something that this can do with out a problem. The ETS street core will preform better than the VRSF core but the price difference is huge. While I do agree that taking the cheap way out is hurting the hobby, this is a case where one of the cheaper parts is actually worth the money it costs.

If you DO have the cash, I would recommend getting an ETS intercooler. If you don't, it doesn't get any better than VRSF. In the end it is your choice.
