the other trans he took out had a bearing noise and he is going to fix it for a spare trans. This trans shifts alot smother than the rebuilt on he just put in. ???

so i dont wanna be driving around in a car that does 0-60 on 1.5 hours.

I said that too when i was younger, now i dd an auto focus ROFL

so i dont wanna be driving around in a car that does 0-60 on 1.5 hours.

Then you absolutely do not want to buy the gs. They run high 17's in the quarter LOL. With the bolt ons maybe mid 17's. Not at all what your looking for. No performance whatsoever.

the rebuilt trans that is in the car is notchy when it is cold, trans only has 100 miles on it. Synchros need time to be break in !??!??!?!?

haha well im young so might as well do it while i can right.

$5500 is a bit overpriced IMO but it looks like it has been done right. As long as the major components are running great anything else that goes bad can be done at school, just don't blow it up I.E. lean it out. The trans is notchy because he probably used a thicker fluid that takes a little heat to get everything running smoothly.

This seems like a no-brainer to me. The awd talon is not even in the same CLASS as a N/A fwd dsm. Go for the blue car all the way! One question though.......why would you even consider the 99 N/A car when your profile shows that you already own a 99 N/A???? If its because you're bored with your current ride, that alone should tell you something. It lost its fun factor and would cost you a ridiculous amount of money to get it anywhere near the AWD turbo car. It'll take you a LOOOONG time, if EVER at all, to get bored with the blue car.

he said that it takes about 10 mins to warm the fluids

what gas do i have to use for the talon!?

that was my old eclipse LOL, i have a differnts cars now. I wanna get back on the dsm again

Run a VIN check to get history on the car to see if it is worth your time. Not everything may show up, but you will have a good idea of what climate it has been in, how many owners, possible accidents, and liens on the vehicle. If you need a loan for the car, check insurance rates.

I honestly would not suggest a turbo DSM as your only car, especially if your tempted to modify it. This is coming from a full-time college student who owns and drives both a TSi AWD and Spyder GS. It's not that the TSi is unreliable. It's the fact that turbo DSM's are more expensive to own/drive and more tempting to modify.

Booooooo wes!! I'm full time college student too my gsx is my only car. Do your work on your breaks! I have 2 weeks off for instance, and I'm slapping on go fast goodies (manifold, new bep.70 turbine housing and fabbing up side exit exhaust and custom o2 housings) hehehe i fully don't mind the dsm and mine is almost fully built, only hassle is letting her warm up before every drive.

Buy the Tsi. That price is good for everything it comes with and the condition. These cars won't give you problems if yah treat them right. Just don't buy it to resell within a couple years.

The transmission might feel notchy because the clutch may be dragging. You should probably check to make sure that's not the issue, because it will need to be addressed or the new synchros in the trans could be ruined.

Easy way to test..

Find a flat surface
Make sure e-brake is off
Put it in first gear
Then while holding the clutch to the floor, rev the engine till you hit the rev limiter

If the car moves forward before the rev limiter hits, the clutch is dragging and needs to be addressed. Might be a simple adjustment, or could be a few more reasons why. But that's definitely something you need to look into.

Awd all the way though man, if you want cheap and reliable, buy a Prius :p

Btw, I'm a full time college student and drive my gsx daily. I mean yeah, they require a lot of maintenance sometimes, but they'll make you one hell of a mechanic in the long run :thumb:

I am thinking the tsi, because it would be much better and way more fun to drive around, and whatever money i put into it i will get more power back than a 420a. But i will have to upgrade a few things to run more boost

The fact that "run more boost" is in every one of your posts about a potential daily driver, coupled with no automotive knowledge ("what gas do I use"), I'd suggest you buy a Civic and leave it stock.

Sincerely-
Daily drove modded DSMs for 14 years

ill say one thing i had a 98 gs auto and i sold it to buy myself a 95 talon tsi awd and i would not change that move for nothing. i love the tsi so much even though mine came completely stock which is sometimes the best way to get it. its also my dd but i am not planing on upgrading anything till i have every thing maintained and checked on it so it be ready for upgrades.

Tsi AWD. Forget the non-turbo unless you wanna build the 420. Half the fun of owning a 4g63 are the mechanical problems that come with them....so worth it when you get them cleaned up.

yeah the car is basically stock engine wise beside the 16g evo turbo, and i wasent sure if i should run 91 or 93 gas.

It says premium unleaded only on the dash panel.and i would go with the TSI AWD any day of the week over a NT. So much funner. You will hate yourself if you go non turbo. As far as reliability, take care of it and do your maintenance and it wont be as issue. Thats all it takes. If you continue to upgrade it, do it the right way. Dont cheap out. Thats for honda people. Not us.

Id get the tsi bro, my 90 awd was my 1st car I've ever bought and it gave me a little headache at first but I never looked back or regreted my decision, they are reliable its just so many have been beaten up and not worked on properly by previous owners usually.

okay i ask the guy if we could take it to a garage so they can look over everything on the car, and he refused to take it there because he dosent want them taking about what he built... sounds fishy to me. He is some kind of tech. working at meineke

maybe take a friend with you that has some knowledge about these cars if you have one. check the body for rust and stuff like that. when i got mine i was way to excited to even look under the car now i got some rust areas i need to address before it gets bad.

im not getting the talon tsi the car was like 5 different shades of blue headlights and engine ### had glue and foam stuff everywhere, the drivers door was full of change in the inside and half way off its had no radio in it and carpets were dirty it need a really good clean, it was ugly to say the least
