Smoke coming from oil fill

So I was letting the car run for awhile to warm up but noticed my oil light came on, the light goes away after even the slightest blimp of the throttle.

So I figured I'd pop the oil fill cap off and peak in to ensure oil was being sent to the cams. Well when I popped the cap off white smoke came out of the fill hole. Is this some what normal or is it a sign my rings are bad, which would suck seeing how I just had a rebuild on it.
 
Do you have oil pressure at all? Verify oil pump is working. Is white smoke coming out of exhaust as well? white smoke usually means you are burning coolant. Is there coolant in your oil? If there is could be head gasket, or maybe head not torqued to spec. Bad rings you would have blow by and would most likely be burning oil so you would have a bluish smoke from the exhaust. I would suggest a compresssion test, leak down test, and make sure head is torqued to spec and check if coolant and oil have mixed. This is where I would start
 
Could I loose oil pressure from a a blown head gasket?

I mean any things possible, but it just doesn't make any sense for bad rings or any of this because the motor has less than 300 miles on it

Also, there is no white smoke out the exhaust, just a high smell of hc's and co's from not running a cat.
 
300 miles on the motor spells that the rings haven't completely seated and you got some blowby still with the smoke coming out of the fill hole.

Are you using any break-in dino oil (and not any synth, for using synth will NOT break a motor in correctly at all .. ) to aid in the break-in, plus are you doing the recommened oil changes during a break-in period?

As long as oil is swirling in the head even with the oil light coming on at idle, should be okey.

What weight of oil are you using .. and hope not any 5w/30 stuff for that's too thin for DSM motors.
 
Shit, I just put vr1 valvoline synthetic in it, I was running vr1 20w50 but with the subzero temps we had in Michigan I decided to go with something thinner.

What is a good break in oil, and not gonna lie I've changed the oil a good three times in 300 miles because the car has done nothing but sit for the winter.

And it's not so much swirling in the head but after it hits peak operating temp it starts to pool up at the bottom of the head. Also, my gauge reads normal and oil light is off on initial start up, it takes a minute for it to turn on and the gauge to drop about a 1/8" above L, it's right around when I hit operating temps.
 
You can guess about this stuff until you're blue in the face. You need to get the proper tools to utilize diagnostics in a better manner. You will go crazy trying to think about what it could be, especially on a new build. First thing you should do is get an aftermarket oil pressure gauge. This will tell you really what's going on and really you should have one anyway In any modified Dsm. Your dummy light is just that..it's a light that is inaccurate and for dummies to rely on for accurate diagnostics, and Im not necessarily talking about you either. You could have a tired pump, you could have a bad warning light sending unit, you could an internal problem, but you need more data to properly diagnose.

If is a steam looking smoke coming out of the valve cover, that's normal. You're going to have some blow by gases regardless. Have you checked on your PCV system? If the smoke is puffing like a train then you might have problems, but smoke on a hot motor is normal to an extent. At 300 miles your rings have pretty much totally seated IMO, and switching to a synthetic isn't going to kill you, but some people will tell you you need crazy amounts of miles to have your rings seat before jumping to a synthetic.

1). Get a oil pressure gauge
2). Know your dummy light is for just that.
3). Do a compression check.
