Ok dsm fans looking for some ideas where to start. I just blow my old worn out engine and look for what mods to do with a 2500 to 3000 dollar window. Also need a good idea on what cams to go with he set up and whwres a good place for cam I'm prety sure mine are worn out. Think of a reman but I do want to build it so if you guys have any advice stroker none stroker etc. All idea welcome thanks in advance.

Ok update I spun the rod in number 4 can't wait to rebuild. No huge damage thank god. Thanks again for all the advice. Going to just do a mild built and some head work..... One question tho if I go with bigger cams do I have to get a new ecu or will I not throw an engine light?

Not an ECU, but a tuning solution is what you will need, like DSM link

How do you spin a rod?

Several ways, lack of oil, debris in the oil, improper oil changes.

So since i have a 97 I thought the options are 95 ecu or I can't tune am I wrong I have been trying to find a way around it but that's all I come up with..... What I get is 97s are not tunable

EvoScan/Flashing:

EPROM Conversion for DSMLink:
ECMTuning, Inc.

A spun rod bearing is still pretty serious. The crank should be pulled and inspected by a machinist.

We have great pricing on our engine this month and sales on tuning equipment like ECMLINK.. PM me or call us at the shop (269)350-9055 we would love to help you out and get you back on the road.

SIM Short Blocks

:DUpdate: so I found an unused stroker crank for 400 picking it up today yay. Thanks agian for all ## help. I'm thinking of going with and eagle rods and pistions I found on ebay. Then may send the head to the michine shop.

I would measure the stroke before purchasing. Also be aware that in order to use a longer stroke crank in a 4g63 block you will need shorter pistons. See this thread for details.

Then you'll need 6mm shorter "stroker" pistons.

How is your block trash? Did you kick a rod out the side of it?

No but previous owner rtved the oil pump and starved the engine of oil so even my mains look really shitty and it also took out my head cams all metal flakes and shit bad

Doing a stroker build on a car with a goal of 300hp I think is pointless. Especially being a FWD car. I'd want less cubes to spool a turbo so I'd get a little more lag before the turbo spools so I don't just spin the tires. If it was me, I'd find a 6 bolt out of a junkyard or find someone selling a longblock. They can be had for 5-600. Or find a 98-99 7 bolt with the split thrust bearing design. The 7 bolt will probably be a little more expensive, but you get to keep your crank angle sensor and the rotating mass (rods, pistons, crank) is less. Still plenty strong for 300hp. People have pushed 500hp from a stock 7 bolt. Do a leakdown test, if you have a borescope look down into the spark plug hole, pull the pan... make sure it's not all rusted or full of glitter (metal flakes). Do a headgasket while it's out, put some ARP headstuds in it, do a full timing belt job. If your goal is 300hp, buy a clutch that'll handle it and put it on while the engine is out as well. Then put the engine in your car. Focus on other things. If your budget is 2500-3000, spend it wisely.

exhaust (3" turbo back), intake, tuning method (either the Ceddymod or ECMLink route), wideband (LC-1), boost gauge, boost controller, injectors (650-750cc range), fuel pump w/ rewire (go with a 190 or evo9 pump. It'll flow plenty of fuel for 300hp and you won't need to buy an AFPR), fmic (maybe a punishment racing setup), turbo (probably a 20g or similar size)... those are the big ones I can think of and that's the order I'd buy them in.
