Ive been looking on here and having trouble finding answers so i thought id ask, I have a 2G eclipse GSX with 6bolt swap (bought already done) and I have noticed that 3 of the four trans to engine bolts have sheered off. So i need to remove motor to get the broke bolts out. And i was wondering if someone could tell me if the motor can be removed without the trans attached? And how hard is it to get out? i have always removed DSM engines and trans together but don't trust the trans held to the engine with just one bolt while removing so I plan to try removing engine alone. Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Pulling the engine without the transmission attached is no more difficult than pulling it attached. Drop the transmission out the bottom with a jack.

You shouldn't have a problem doing it. With the transmission off and dropped out the bottom, pulling the engine should be pretty easy. Just make sure you keep track of all the wiring.

Yea, follow the normal trans removal method like speedo, wiring harness, starter, downpipe, transfer case, wiring and then remove left and right engine mounts and tilt the trans downward using a jack as help and drop it out the bottom side. Center the motor back up and then attach picker and go as per normal.

I bet if you used search on here you will find detailed instructions on both steps. Not being rude but about everything you can think of has been answered the question is how to find it.

Thank you for the replies guys. It is a manual, and i did search the forums before looking. The only one i could find regarding removing just the engine involved the 420 engine, and i didnt know if it would be different for the 4G3. I am planning to attempt removal in the morning.

Well I just did it today. You take out the studs of the front and rear trans mount and lift it up with a floor jack. Meanwhile yoy take your engine lift and pull up on the engine so the part by the cam gears is tilted up a ton. It will come out iltook me like 10 mins once I tool out the trans bolts. Take off the transfer case ### the oil pan will hit if you don't
