I am looking to replace my current ACT 2600 clutch with a more softer pedal clutch, but with close or better gripping than the ACT it will replace. I have been using both 2100 and 2600 ACT clutches since 2002. However, I never liked the pedal feel and now the traffic down here is getting worse! I need something soft on the leg.

This car is not my DD. I don't launch my car at all. In fact I never bothered to learn how to do it! Do have occasional road racing, but that is it - no Drag racing track here. Considering my mods, my car should have more than 300 horses.

He is what I know:

I have read that the Centerforce is about 90% of the ACT 2600 gripping power.
The XTD stage 4 is also about the same or slightly better in gripping than ACT 2600. My issue is, the XTD stage 4 comes with unsprung 6 Puck, which I don't like (the disc). On the other hand, the Centerforce is a little week.

I am aware of the Southbend and Clutchmaster options, but I find them expensive. However, if push comes to shove, I may have to go for the SS-Series. Also, I think their Kevlar disks are interesting...

The Big question:

Is there a disc that will work best with XTD or centerforce (or even ACT 2100) that will give me a grip similar to ACT 2600, but with pedal feel close to stock?

Thanks in advance

I cant tell you, but i CAN tell you your not looking for a competition clutch. I just installed one and it feels like a dump truck c lutch LOL. Heavy heavy PP

edit: A sachs PP is good for near stock feel actually. But im not sure how well itd handle 300. Mine let go with all the mods i have at 23psi. Too much power for it. The disk was good but the PP wasnt strong enough i guess.

Thanks, but the sachs PP is a no no for me. Too much negative reviews, besides it will slip at 22psi just like yours

What do you think of mating an XTD stage 4 PP (2200 lb) with a Southbend disc (TZ/FE-Series Full-Face Kevlar/Feramic Sprung Clutch Disk). I think I read here (can't remember which member) someone had good results meting the Kevlar disc to an ACT2100.

Well, im not sure. I know what a 2700lb plate feels like and its very heavy. A 2200, while being easier on the left leg, may let go on you. Maybe mate it up to a fidanza flywheel, idk. The flywheel they have has a replaceable friction plate which i can only assume helps in gripping things.

I had a fidanza a while back, but I switched to ACT streetlite, which is mid-way in weight (13 - 14 lbs). The ACT streetlite supposed to better at heat dispassion.

According to Southbend their TZ series PP, which is also 2200 with a full Kevlar disc can handle up to 500 tq. It seems their disc makes all the difference because 500 tq is even higher than the ACT 2600's. That is why am interested on PP with 2200 from XTD which is cheaper, then get a good disc somewhere else...

The xtd stage 4 does not have more clamping force than a 2600 act. IF you are looking for something with a high clamping force and a softer pedal i would look into a fidanza clutch.

You are right about the xtd, as it is only 2200 lbs. But (and this is important) what happen if you get the right disc? This is the basis of my search. Like I said, Southbend TZ series PP, which is also 2200 but with a full Kevlar disc can handle up to 500 tq (at least that is what they say). Therefore, my line of thinking is doing something similar. Got it?

Which fidanza clutch are you proposing? Thanks

I've heard problems with the fidanza clutches. Might be fixed by now. I'm running an ACT 2600 unsprung ceramic 6 puck and I like it.

For something with a lighter pedal, I'd run the 2100 or 2200 with a 6 puck, but that lowers you down into the 450ft/lb torque limit.

Sounds like a good idea if the driverbility of the 6 puck is ok. I would prefer a 6 puck sprung though, as the unsprung is not friendly to the tranny.

What is the advantage of a 6 puck design compared to a regular disc anyway? is it in it being light weighted?
Do the 6 puck add harshness to the padal feel?

I've always heard that a 6 puck will grab harder(confirmed) but won't be as slippable(plausible since I have no problems city driving)

Sprung is fine. i just chose unsprung because I have solid mounts and I don't want to worry about disk springs popping out and damaging the flywheel

If your on a budget look at the F1 clutches from the Ebay seller Gripforce-clutches they are sometimes clutch.net clutches, I've used most of the stage 3 and 4 kits in the past and in a lot of cars with people on a budget and never had any issues. But, JUST from that seller...

If money is not a big deal just get a southbend kit from TMZPerformance (Twicks69 on here) Click ---> Here there is a ton of info to help decide being he tested them though I've always been of the mind frame to go about one level higher then what he recommends on that page and prefer Ceramic NOT Feramic puck style clutches over kevlar and not dual friction...Just my personal preferace. This is what I run, really great products. Though my clutch isn't list there... .
I'm sure Tim can get you setup with any combo you wanted... .

Yeah, Southbend to be a biti more focus with our car's requirements given the variety of discs/clutch sets they are offering...

Thanks

Back up from the dead... Did anyone try out the 2200/Kevlar f1 setup posted right above me? Op what did you end up going with? I'm looking for a budget clutch setup, and this doesn't seem to bad. Thanks
