Whats up?

I installed a JDM motor in a 90 Talon TSI. I started the car with the upper IC pipe off, and it idled perfect...nice and smooth. I wanted to make sure it was gonna run before I finished up everything else. I installed the upper IC pipe yesterday, and changed the MAS to one that had the clips to hold the K&N filter on.

Started the car and it ran like crap...was running on 2 cylinders (2-3). Grabbed another coil pack and just plugged it in sitting on top of the intake, started it again and it idled weird, but runs on all 4. I changed the MAS back to the original and its idling better, but still a little rough. When I drive the car it runs good....stalled a few times at a stop sign while idling.

I've tried to adjust the BISS but it doesn't make a difference!

Anybody got any ideas?

Sound similar to what mine is doing. I'm pretty sure that mine is the Idle Control Valve (I forget the official name for it). It had similar issues and now it is starting to develop a surge at times.

You need to try setting your base idle and Base ignition timing.

A Haynes Manual tells you how to set your bases. And its not as easy as just turning your CAS.

Also make sure your TPS and ISC are both pluged in. Your idle would be hard to adjust without them.

Hope this helps.

I'm aware that you have to ground out the ecu so it doesn't control the timing. Then set the base timing and biss screw.

I know the TPS and ISC is hooked up. I double checked it many times to make sure.

What gets me is the day before it idled perfect? I didn't unhook anything, just installed the upper IC pipe.

I'm going to reset the base timing and see what happends.

Have you removed the Upper IC pipe and see if your idle improved? And check ## plugs to make sure an electrode didnt burn up when the other coil was connected.

Did you unplug your battery AFTER this perfect idle?? The computer may have to reset itself, it takes a few miles of driving around with the car wanting to die, I hate that part...

To set your base idle you need to ground out the pin under the hood along with pin #10 in your diagnostic port under your dash, With the car off of course.

Turn the car on adjust the biss screw ( and CAS if necessary for proper idle). Once it is right around 750rpm turn the car off. Then unground the #10 pin under the dash. Turn the car back on and adjust the CAS for proper ignition timing. When that is right turn the car off and unground the pin under the hood. Then turn the car back on and all should be good.

If all is not good then something is not functioning right and you might need to replace something.

If this is the same one I bought then the problem was probably the wires going to the CAS. They were chaffed real bad and I had to cut them and re solder them with heat shrink and then secured them properly.
