First off, I searched for similar problems but could not find anything.
Secondly, this is my first post and I am extremely new to forums so please excuse me if it is posted in the wrong place or something...

Now, I'm new to the DSM world, but not SUPER new. Anyways, I bought a 96 Talon TSi with 94,xxx on it, and am having a few problems.

When I bought it, the check engine light was on, and the engine was overheating very quickly. I discovered the fans weren't coming on, and tried to figure out what was wrong. I learned that it was the grounding wire, fixed that, and the fans work perfectly fine now with no check engine light.

Now to the current issue - the car is starting to run rich it seems. I can't see for myself, but friends behind say that whenever I open up the throttle and punch it a bit, it dumps out black smoke. The BOV is also making quite a bit of noise (at least from the cabin) so I didn't know if recirculation was a problem. Would if be an 02 sensor? Which one? The reason I am confused is because it has the hose connected and IS recirculating. I also don't know what type of blow off valve it is, as it does not look stock.

My gas mileage is horrible and I am just very confused, so I figured I would try to ask you guys. I'm a bit short on money too so I'm hoping it isn't too much!

Thanks ahead of time, if you guys need any other info let me know please. Sorry for the noobish post!

Okay cool, I'll do that ASAP. Also, can you or anyone else tell me what kind of BOV this is? It doesn't look stock to me, looks like an ebay one haha. And I'm pretty sure it is recirculating

It's not recirculating. It looks like a turboxs blow off valve.

In the photo you can see my Tial recirculating back into the intake pipe.

Yes, it looks like a turboxs hard to say if its knock off or not? I really recommend you to either find a way to recirculate it or get another BOV.
Do the BLT man! ;)

Ohhh gotcha! I assumed that the tube coming off of the top of it was the recirculation since I've never seen that BOV on other cars before... maybe thats the vacuum line that actuates the blow off valve? Do you guys know how I can recirculate this one? I'm sorry for the dumb questions haha. I'm going to the store to pick up a BLT today! But the venting to atmosphere could definitely explain it running rich haha

The tube coming off the top should be going to the intake manifold uninterrupted. I'm not sure if you can recirculate that one. The inlet on your turbo assuming you have the stock t25 is 2.25" for the boost leak tester.

Did a BLT and thanks to you, found a leak! Turns out the previous owner ground off the thread from the bov and used a clamp to attach it to the rubber hose. Leaky leaky right there! And Ialso found a 1g talon I'm going to snatch the bov from so I can recirculate and I've heard good things about those.
