Okay my 99 4g64 "automatic" started stalling out yesterday when my friend and I were out riding around. It normally stays around 550rpms when stopped but after a while it all of a sudden would drop completly down below 100 and id give it gas to keep it going, well I finally got it home and was pulling it into the garage and it stalled out on me. We checked all the hoses and they're all good and snug still from what we could tell. I waited about an hour and restarted it and it didn't stall that time. It's stock minus an aftermarket intake and exhaust which have been on the car since I owned it. Can anyone tell me what it may be?

Well I called my mechanic and he told me he's about 99.9% sure its the idle contol motor which is going to cost me about 400 for the new one. He also said that the aftermarkets don't work for my 2.4l and I have to go oem. If anyone can find the part number with a link to it I'd be greatly apprecitated so I can try and find an oem cheaper online.

$400? That's way high. You can probably find a used one on here for sale or even a new one on eBay for way less then that. And I'm not sure on the 4g64, but on the 4g63, it's all of two bolts and a rubber o-ring. Quick and painless to change.

its like 375 plus tax from mitsu. and you have to reset the idle after. I'm not fooling with it and making it worse.

I'm going to pull the motor off and clean it out real good, and I'm going to clean my intake too and see if that helps. It was sitting next to a dryer vent for a few months and was covered in lint so I'm thinking it could be clogging something up perhaps.

Go to your local auto parts place and ask for seafoam they will walk you right the the can, I have always pulled off a vacuum line and allowed the engine to suck a little in at a time. let it run through and then continue until it was gone. At work I have a bottle with a controlled drip but I have had success with the simple engine vacuum

^^ what he said. Note that when you do it, its going to bog your motor so have someone in the drivers seat to give it some gas... and its gonna smoke like crazy for a little while after you do it as it burns the seafoam and gunk it cleans out of your throttle body and lines

edit: its also a good fuel additive, pour half a can into a full tank....

Check your Mass Air flow Sensor, easy enough just find someone with a working one and swap it out if your problem goes away. you know what to fix.

99% of the time they always say it's the ISC, next a problem with your ECM..check all the connectors first since you replaced the Intake, i'm sure you removed the MAF to install it. I'd start there. Especially if the problem started shortly after modifications were done.

On a side note...You didn't attempt to "clean" the MAS or blow compressed air through it did you?

Have you backed out your BISS screw on the throttle body to see if that changes anything? It sounds like the idle air but adjusting the BISS will help. I dont even have idle air control on my car I just adjusted my BISS till the car idled well and its all good now.

Holy cow. Get a $5 multimeter and test the ISC real quick. If it's bad buy one off the classifieds here, its stupid cheap compared to what they're charging you. Try to get the black colored one if you can though, they're the better version.

And to the guys talking about Seafoam, hey don't forget the secret! After vacuuming the amount of Seafoam, shut the engine off and let it sit in there for some time. I give it 30mins+. During that time I call my buddies up to come over because it's gonna be one hell of a 15min show! Man I love that stuff. It's just so amusing to observe the panicked neighbors thinking shits burning down their neighborhood.

Should stand near a gas can while watching the car 'burn up' and smoking a cigarette. Wonder how many cops my town has...

Sorry OP didn't mean to get sidetracked. Anyway unless you don't like/have time to fix it up yourself it's not too bad of a test/repair.

I had a cam sensor go bad. Symptoms: start run fine and then started to do some (minor) strange erratic power thrusts when on throttle it would come and go. Then finally check engine came on. One night I decided to turn car off/on at a light. It wouldn't to start just turned over. waited 5 min it started. Took it to dealer sad bad cam sensor. Fine ever since ...
