I have like 5 or 6 of them if you need one. It's just the disc alignment tool right?
Thanks for the offer, threw one in with an order for a few other small things I "needed". Stupid little tool hiding on me :banghead:

Clean? You must be talking about a different Nathan... Lol! All the sanding I did on the Evo's bumper appears to have landed on the Eclipse. That's ok, just needs a wash.

I already told Jose but I won't be able to make it to the drags this Friday due to a schedule change at work :(

I've seen it washed Nathan, looks cleaner then my piece! Too bad about work, seems to get in the way of fun alot. Any idea when you might get out?

I got a few things done on the talon this week at least, removed the full rear spoiler for another 10lbs off, removed it carefully so I can replace it if I'd like. Got my wiring harness back in the engine bay, wrapped an area in some DEI tape that was melting from my O2 dump. Next week I plan on having it driving again, then there are a few other little things to finish up before it's track worthy, including finding more weight to remove.

Jeez, always loved Jose's car soo much.

Looks killer man. I remember waiting for updates to your website anxiously all the time back in the day.

Those were the days when I had some time. I was doing something almost weekly back then for almost two years. Right when I had it dialed in, back overseas I went.

When I started searching for a '90-'91 Talon TSi AWD back in the summer of '96, I wanted a white one first and foremost. However, when I found my red one with only 38k, one owner, I couldn't resist. And, I guess I got a strong runner.
:D

But, I do still love me a white 1ga Talon!

strong runner for sure!

Well, did not happen tonight. Have to wait till next friday, April 5th. Had the car finally ready to tow down to the track. But the front is apparently too low and too hard for the flat tow. One of the bolts from my tow bracket mount sheared off. The front suspension is just unforgiving right now. Will raise it up some this week and put the dampers on a softer setting. Just did not want to risk it. Couple pics for you guys. Hooked and ready to go. The one in the garage, looking like someone who did not get asked to the prom. Fully dressed and a tank full of Q16.

Man that sucks Jose. Looks like you and I both will be running next weekend. Glad to see not just one of hitting the track and putting in work to get there.

I've managed to lose a few more lbs and a couple mods to help out in the hp department. I'll have a few pics to add to my build thread pretty soon.

Quick update, the tracks are open and I'm hoping to get out within the next couple weeks. I finally started the long overdue process of converting back to AWD, starting with the rear end. While it's apart I dropped the whole subframe and installed all new bushings and toe elim. I also got all new pads and rotors and freshened the calipers up. The back end's all done, and the car is turned around in the garage. Next step is to drop the front subframe and do those bushings, then swap the trans/t-case/flywheel for the AWD stuff, install the driveshaft, and put the exhaust back up. I hope to have that all done by next weekend, then just gotta check the tune and tweak a bit if needed and watch the weather!

Side note - I was going to install the JMF fuel cell, but after weighing it, I don't feel it's worth it as a weight saving mod based on cost and given how much fuel capacity I'd give up. I'd seen claims of 20+lbs savings, but it's actually only 15.5 lbs lighter. Also, there is a metal outer cover on the back of the stock tank that's 4.5 lbs, so in reality it's only an 11 lb net savings. Since I run E85 and street drive the car, it's just not worth it to save such little weight for me.

Here are some pics of the progress I've made in the last week:

I wonder if the weight took into account the fuel difference with both tanks being full? That might make up the difference.

As for that shield around the gas tank, if you get to running quick enough, they might say something about the stock tank not having a protection shield around it. It's just like aftermarket tanks...if the protrude below the floor, they have to be shielded in case of accident and something hitting it and just dropping gas all over the place.

Totally sucks man, BUT, the best things come when we are patient. I know you are on limited time, but you'll be fine...

Do you happen to know what ET that comes into play at?

I have the JMF cell, but, I've wondered about that.

I'll take the 15.5 weight savings....even adding a hypothetical 5 lb. aluminum shield still leaves a 10 lb. advantage on the table.

Yeah, at the stage most of are at, 10 lbs is a huge chunk of weight loss to come out with one modification! But, I have no idea what ET the shield would come into play, I think it's required regardless of ET but I know mine was so rusted apart there wasn't much left when I removed it anyways. I would suspect once they start looking for the cage, driveshaft loop, and flywheel shield type stuff they'd dive under the car and look for that too.

It has been fun getting back to working on the car. Always has been my Zen time. Can't wait to be retired and enjoy some more "Me" time.

Awesome to hear Steve! Thanks for the take on the fuel cell. I too have contemplated the fuel cell. Which I may still do in the future, but now know that the weight savings is not as big as I thought previously.

Totally sucks man, BUT, the best things come when we are patient. I know you are on limited time, but you'll be fine...

Thanks, Yep, probably for the best. I did not even take the car for its first test drive until that day. So starting tomorrow I will be driving it to and from work to allow my ECU and MAF-T to talk, before I start fine tuning my fuel trim.

Plus, secured a trailer for my trek to the dragstrip. Normally I would drive it to the track, but have friends and family wanting to go. So that is the whole reason to tow it to the track this time.

Have any of you guys considered running a fuel surge tank, and then simply removing the main tank completely at the drag strip?

Hmmmm. So, I'd guess that maybe once running mid 10's or trapping 135+ is where the hard scrutinizing will take place.

Jose- sounds like you'll have a more organized approach this time out, can't wait to hear about it.

Yep, 10 lbs. would be huge at this point. Of course, if you don't pass tech, it's irrelevant. Guess we should try to nail down some of those rules. In the end I plan to have shaft loop and scatter shield in the mix....

Sounds cool, but I'd guess the one gallon cell would be 'easiest' at that point. But, for guys still driving on the street it certainly would drop a large sum of weight.

If I ever end up doing a fuel cell it'll probably be a 1 gallon after the car becomes a trailer queen. If I'm going to trailer it and only use it for drag racing anyways, might as well save as much weight as possible.

As for me I might just have lead on some wheels and slicks from one of our very own!

Still have to see what I can get figured out on the wheels. But the slicks as of now are 100% a go. :thumb:

Ive always been sort of a track techy. I have every rulebook for years. Sucks getting to the track and not being able to run because you didnt add some of the smallest things.

Straight from the 2013 NHRA rulebook on fuel systems:

1:5 Fuel Systems

TANKS
When permitted by class regulations, fuel tanks located outside body and/or frame must be enclosed in a steel tube frame constructed of a minimum1 1/1 O.D.x.058 chromoly or.118 mild steel tubing. All fuel tanks must be isolated from the drivers compartment by a firewall, completely sealed to prevent any fuel from entering the drivers compartment. All fuel tanks must have a pressure cap and vented outside of body. A positive-locking screw-on fuel tank cap is mandatory on all open-bodied cars. Insulated fuel tanks prohibited.

When used, nonmetallic fuel cells must havea metal box protecting the part of the fuel cell that is outside of the body lines or trunkfloor, excluding hose connection area in rear. The metal box must be constructed of a minimum .024 steel or .032 aluminum. Nonmetallic fuel cells or tanks must be grounded to frame.

So what it looks like is that you wont need a shield as long as the tank is metal.

Congrats Jose! And that's still on street tires! Yikes!

Thanks guys. Mainly for the inspiration to get this 2nd round effort on the car.

On my regular Rota 18's, Falken Ziex 225/40/18 (17Psi) any lower and there really is no sidewall.

2 gallons of Q16 and the car a tad bit under 2400lbs, me 177.

Boost at 22 psi

1.6228 60ft
4.8213 330ft
7.5395 1/8et
90.07 1/8mph
11.8815 1/4et
112.64 1/4mph

The track was ridicously packed. 10.5s running, funny cars and dragsters. I was not expecting that so we finally made the first run on the track around 9:45. So much like my 12.1 some 8 or 9 years ago I was only able to get a couple passes in. The 11.8 being the second pass, which was ran at 11:29pm! Off the trailer she went 12.42 @ 111.14 @ 20 psi. Went back to the pits, lowered tire pressure from 20psi to 17psi. Leaned out the WOT dial on the MAF-T another 5%. Raised the boost to 22psi. Everything felt really good on the second pass however on the top the car sputtered shortly after 1000ft. I suspect fuel starvation, not lean but lack of fuel in the tank. So the car stopped pulling.

So the benefits of 300+ lbs of weight reduction are clearly evident. The Q16 seems like it has alot of potential and would just take time for me to get the fuel trims dialed in perfect. I did notice that to be at the same place I was with C16 I had to lean out about 10% on the Q16.

I will have to see if I can track down any video of my run. But I dont have any. Everyone who was suppose to go down with me or meet me there did not show. So I had my three year old and a co-worker as my cheering section.

Now the reality of it all for me. The car will once again go on an indefinite hiatus. My health is not the best, infact I have a pre-opt on monday and surgery on the 19th. Between the marathon effort to get the car ready and trying to get my "seat of the pants" tuning done. It has taken the energy right out of me. Not to mention the trailering issues I had and the nearly three hour drive to the track.

We'll see how everything goes after I retire and if I have a track nearby where I live next.

But on that note I will still be around the boards, but just not wrenching.

Nice job, Jose!

Thanks Leon. You and Phil have been some of the guys that have been with me the longest and both have giving me helpful tips and ideas along the way. Also thanks to Nathan from El Paso for allows offering to assist with the car and let me borrow parts to trouble shoot.

Have the slip to post up and a shot I took of the car stoping at a gas station last night to get some energy drinks to make it home. This was probably close to 2am. My daughter was the real trooper of the evening. Notice the huge lift on the car. Had to crank the coilovers all the way up just to get the car on the trailer.

As for the folks who want to bust my chops about 18" street tires not being able to pull such good 60's here is a scan of a slip of mine and the video that goes with the slip of a 1.63 on the same model of 18" tires, Falken Ziex.

1.63 60ft on 18's Timeslip
1.63 60ft on 18's video

Very nice effort ArcticTsi and a very impressive 60', especially on the street tires. Motivates me to drive my car to the track, about an hour each way. Maybe i could break into high 12's with some luck..

Good luck with the surgery!
