I did a quick search and only found solutions suggesting replacing shaft seals....

I replaced my shaft seals about a month ago, and this is the first time the car has been started since I replaced them. I have a large air leak on the back side of the TB coming from the return spring. This leak was present when I fired up the car days before replacing the seals, yet it wasn't there when the old engine broke down. I'm using the same intake manifold, TB, TB elbow, and the gaskets are both new along with the shaft seals. As you can see in the video, the leak goes away when I up the RPMs. Is there any other possibilities other than still the shaft seals? I don't think it's the seals because the install went well and they weren't deformed or anything after running the plate shaft back through. I'm at a loss here... :|

Have you adjusted the throttle plate properly after all that work. Also with car off after adjusting do WOT and let it snap closed fast to seat and recheck adjustment. It's hard to tell from the vid but your car sounds abit funny to me. It appears that since you did some work to that area something isn't in right, i would recheck your work.

The car sounds odd because I have to replace a coil so it's miss-firing. I installed the throttle plate back in the proper way. I don't remember it I let it snap shut after opening to WOT, but I'm assuming I did, because I followed a writ-up someone did that was quite detailed in procedure. I may just pull it back off and see if my feeler gauge will fit between the plate and the inlet wall.

Looks like the gasket is on wrong. On a 1g the hump is on the top right part of the TB.

Even if the gasket is oriented wrong, it shouldn't matter as the gasket is symetrically cut on the inside, and the 4 bolt holes are evenly spaced. However, I do remember seeing the hump part always pointing up, so I'll change that when I remove the TB. That wouldn't cause a leak though.

That gasket can most certainly go on wrong. I have done it before. I am assuming your talking about the throttle body to manifold gasket.

Yea I put the gasket on wrong in a rush and it leaks from the vacuum ports.

I bought a rebuilt TB from a reputable vender with a shaft seal leak so im sure it can happen to anybody. I pulled the rubber out of the brass ring and replaced with o-rings with a little faucet grease and it sealed it up. I followed a right up but can't seem to link it from phone.

So I swapped the gasket around Thursday night and just started the car a little bit ago to test something else out. I forgot all about the leak at first and then noticed that it is no longer leaking. Thanks to Icekilla and Ace. It now runs as it sould, minus needing a new t-stat now. Thanks again, will leave some rep for you two.

One other question though.... could this leak have been the reason why my compression #s are ay 120psi for all cylinders? I haven't run another compression test since swapping the gasket around, but just curious.
