Alright well here is my start to this build/revival of this 90 laser fwd. I bought it a couple months ago for $400 bucks, it is mostly complete minus engine trans shifter and cables...someone had started a partout, and its missing little odd and end things that i have mostly rounded up. I am also doing a swap that is probably gonna catch some flack and whatnot, but a 2g 7bolt with 2g fwd trans is going in...yes i know some fab work is required but this isnt my first dsm build...so with that being said i guess ill start posting pics.

here is how it sits now...it has hyundai tibouron wheels that came on it, wouldnt have been my first choice of wheel but it will do for now i guess.

here is the engine that i picked up from a local junk yard. came out of a 95 eclipse gsx, bought it as a complete engine, with trans and transfer case for $400, i couldnt believe it when he told me what he would take for itOMG

here is the block right now...it would have been put together about two weeks ago, but the dsm graveyard is slow as shit to get me my rings and bearings. i ordered them the 12th of march its now the 3rd of april:ohdamn: hopefully they will be showing up anyday now.

and here is about half of my order from stm...the rest is supposed to be here tomorrow...well its just a start so bear with me guys LOL.

buhay6...its an fc rx7, i work on plenty of those as well LOL

pipnorcali...thats the thing i am only like three hours from the graveyard and i have had previous purchases through them a few years ago on a 2g build and some other odd and end things that i needed and i got my stuff very fast...ive even been to their storefront two or three times, so i figured they were still providing good service...at least they did send out half of my order of what they did have available. guess i learned a good lesson :/...glad that after a bunch of hard work to get on the map now theyre letting it slip away.

Also in general i did not post earlier that i have a 3" turbo back punishment racing exhaust, as well as a punishment racing front mount. both are ebay stuff, but im on a budget right now so they will have to make due for the time being. i am also going to be running a 16g as well...i will add some more pictures tomorrow of the rest of my parts hopefully and a few other odd and end things that i come up with.

Is that a 2G 7-bolt motor? You know they don't bolt into 1G's at all, right?

^^^ yes it is and yes they dont exactly "BOLT" up persay, BUT this is why i am putting this build thread up, because i had a 93 laser that i bought a jdm 7bolt engine that was supposed to fit into a 1g, but it was a 2g block must have been out of an rvr or something, but i got it to work and i didnt have any pics of what i had to go thru to get it to work...so now i have the opportunity to oi it again so i want to show how to do it. and to do it in an odd ball 90 will be even better...just sit back and watch it will work, ive done it before :)

I'm sure it can be done. You'll have to make some custom motor mount adapters...but 6-bolt blocks are cheap as dirt, stronger and bolt-in. You can snatch a NT block up and build that if you can't find a turbo motor.

yep just have to make one adjustment to the crossmember...and yes i know the availability and all of the interchangable blocks that will and wont work...i have a couple six bolt blocks laying in the garage but i dont have the time nor extra funds to send them to the machine shop...and im not a "bandwagoner" persay and im not a 6 bolt or nothing kind of person, and honestly a 6 bolt block is stronger than a 7 bolt isnt true, the 7bolt come factory with a main girdle where as in a 6 bolt you need a kiggly girdle or something similar...yes the rods are beefier but im building a street car and not going to be wholeshot launching it from every stoplight. im just doing it to show that an average person can drop a 2g 7bolt into a 1g fairly easy with a little bit of knowledge and part interchangability know how. it would be easier into a 91-94, but just for the extra challenge for myself i am choosing a 90.

^^^well the reat of the build is comming along...as far as the mod goes you just weld a peice of flat stock to the side of the existing cross member and attatch your mount to that to move it over the required 3 1/2-4" required...mine isn't pretty but I just plan to make a tubular crossmember that lines right up with it and call it good.

Buuuut on other terms I have an issue I've been fighting with the past few months of when I get time to mess with this thing. I've checked sensors ecu's wiring trouble codes replaced parts swapped parts and I have it now to where I can start it and it will idle just fine but as soon as I touch the throttle the car will almost choke itself out and die...has anyone had this issue before? I have a video I will try to post if I

Well here is a link to my video of my problem I am having

Man it has been quite a while since I have posted on here. Yes I actually do still own this car and have zero intentions to get rid of it any time soon. I did finish it with my 7 Bolt build, (I will post pics the very few I did get of this thing once it was mostly finished up) but very promptly destroyed the trans in it. Then life events happened, I moved three times, swapped jobs a couple of times and unfortunately, slowly but surely this cars drive train got parted out. I have recently started to pull this car apart for a full start over ground up build again. Also lots of paint work, and underside preservation in the works. I am looking forward to reviving this thread again and be a little more thorough in pics and details this time around. My plans for this car now are to make this an extremely clean fun little DD, small mods, maybe show off some fab skills on some intercooler piping and whatnot, and just breathe some more life back into this great little car and make it into what I really want it to be. I will be going back to 6 Bolt since I have acquired a few engines over the past couple of years. Big 16g for now, and main supporting mods. Stay tuned for updates as I hope to really crank out on this thing this winter.

Here are a few pics that I had taken of the car as it was almost finished and pretty well finished, then some of its deconstruction up to the point that it is at today.

here it was engine and trans pulled out, to see what was wrong exactly, then shortly after the engine was sold

Now here is how she sits, getting ready for a fresh coat of white in the engine bay, and some body harness repair where the previous owner ran a dump tube directly at a good chunk of the wiring harness.....It is a fresh start...and sorry for the crappy pic quality....new better pics to come.

Nice to see a nice 1g back to the road again. Reminds me when i decided to put back my talon on road 10 years ago.
I just changed EVERYTHING since in this car.
Good luck with your build!!

Hey thanks guys, I wish that things wouldn't have happened the way that they did with this car, but it lets me restart and do another fresh build.
