then replace it with a stock air box and switch it out when you pass emissions. you can find one at a junk yard im sure.

Yep you have no choice but injen or junk yard stocker. Check if anyone from your region will help you out and lend it to you.

This is true.

The intake is non brand (eBay). Does anyone know any websites where I can buy the airbox? Otherwise what is the cheapest new intake that has a CARB number

Cheapest one made for the dsm is only Injen AND ONLY ONE THAT IS CARBED. (Correct me if Im wrong) close to 200 bucks brand new, not worth it unless your in cali I bought it used for 175 back n the days when injen was 200 n up.
You have to look at ebay or the junk. Check our vendors on here, they are also a junk yard specifically for dsm parts.

You can get stock one for free, hell if you were closer i'd lend you mine.

miller import should have it but they are on the east coast if you dont mind waiting for shipping. i would just call your local junk yard and find one with an eclipse in it.

That miller website didn't have it (at least when I searched) I'll get a better look at it good suggestion though. Are there any more websites like it?

My recommendation having someone loan you a stock airbox because if you do get a CARB legal intake you'll still get hassled about it because then they'll want paperwork.

Or just paint everything black/flat black and put an stock airbox over it. Ive been asked to pop my hood plenty of times and they can never tell what i have.

I'd say now is a good time to replace that e-bay intake with the real deal if you have the money for it.

It's not that bad in Cali at least it doesn't rain everyday..hahaha

K & N comes with a carb number as well I got all kinds of mods and it passes smog no prob.

It would be nice if that was the case. However, we are flooded with riced out honda's packing 88.7bhp with their CAI and fart can exhaust's . You need to have a hook up in smog if you are going to mod your car here in CA. As smog becomes more strict - that is becoming very difficult now a days.

Go to a different smog shop. Just hit up the guy before he tests it and let him know what's up. Let him know that it will pass the actual emission test and see if he's willing to look past the non-oem intake if you buy him a pack of smokes or slip him a $20. It's worked for me in the past when the guy was cool. I just left a $20 sitting on the drivers seat for him.

Or do like so many of us do in Commifornia and find one of the few "good" smog guys out there that will make your car pass

... AWD swaps are against CA SMOG laws too. I passed everything, visual, sniffer, readiness test, etc. after turning my car back to stock but when I told them they couldn't put it up on the dyno because it was AWD the SMOG shop said I had to go to the REF so they could approve the AWD.

He was so adamant about putting it on the dyno, after I said not to because it was AWD, he put it on there anyway and drove over the rollers because he only chalked the back wheels. Definitely drove out of there pissed but now I can relax because I'm out of Cali.

OP. It takes all of 5 minutes to switch to a stock intake and there are plenty of friendly DSMers that have them in storage just for SMOG.

Its a easy win anyway, . But seriously i couldnt live there either thats just bs. In Louisiana if the car is a 95 or older all that you need is lights and blinkers oh and a horn.

Seriously?! I guess I'm gonna have an even harder time passing SMOG when I move out there... Damnit. Looks like I'll have to pick up a VCE...

probably just depends on the station. i got my car smogged on tuesday, passed sniffer and visual with flying colors with my modded air box (well, lack of air box, filter is exposed like a CAI. PO did it must have done it), smog guy didnt say a word about it. i'm saving my pennies for a CARB intake right now.
