sarasota, Florida
New to the dsm scene. From Sarasota, just looking for a shop that's either local or worth the tow to get it there. I bought a 6 bolt gsx swap in a 2g gst shell for a good deal
The car was originally not starting unless pop started so I jumped in fullhands on deck to get my first dsm.

Long story short I bought the car to learn about cars.. Except I have no time to spend on my new baby :-( . Anyway the car runs great when pop started I just have a grinding noise when I try to turn key. Its a nasty grind and makes me sad to hear my baby hurt.I've already replaced the starter and checked battery terminals and the battery. I suspect it might be the flywheel and might need to upgrade a few things so this doesn't happen again. If anyone knows about sarasota or a shop around here please help me.. New to the forum and just wish I could learn and fix this myself but I'm afraid of causing more damage...
Looking for any help I can get.
As of date of purchase she's been sitting
And I've just been clocking in the hours

Nothings gettin done on her and I just want my baby to run!
Need some words of encouragement and advice in general.

I also don't really trust any mechanic id rather do it myself
But I really don't have the time:-(

Thanks
Josh.

Are you anywhere near Pensacola? I just recently moved down here and looking for something to do! I'd love to help you out since it sounds like you have a project on your hands.
And could you make a list of all the things done to the car please. And also I would love to see some pictures if you don't mind.

Damn I can't upload pics from my phone. Not really near Pensacola but you're welcome to come by any time you like LOL. Pm I'll send you pics thru my phone. The car is a 6 bolt swap and had a evo 9 bov and the turbo too. I litteraly just bought it and parked it at my parents house. I'm pretty bummed out about my new job too cause its a great job but I don't get consecutive days to try and work on the car.. Don't have the equipment to start my project either.. However I am excited to get her up and running I just have no real idea where to start.. I was told it needed a new flywheel so I'm off to find a new one.. On a research mission to find a solution or a shop trustworthy..
Ready to honestly just bust out the manliness and fix it up myself with no real knowledge of how to drop the tranny. Did watch a tutorial on youtube though. Doesn't look ridiculously hard but I have no real organization to remember which bolts go where. Thanks for reading though I can't waiiittt to get my dsm runnin so I can truly be a dsmer:) 4g63t style B-)

How far is it from Pensacola? I don't have any mode of transportation right now. I left my dsm up in Washington. I'm looking to pick up another 2g while I'm down here. Possibly one that needs a little bit of work since I'm not trying to spend too much money.
Dropping the tranny isn't hard. Just can be a pain sometimes. If you have trouble remembering what bolts go where, get ziplock bags and label them.
And you could text me the pictures (360)-516-8274

Thank you everyone your help is much appreciated!:hellyeah:

If the car is a manual transmission then it could be that whoever swapped-in the six bolt may have sourced the engine from an automatic turbo car and they failed to remove the spacer that is pressed into the crank of the turbo/automatic cars. The spacer is meant for a flexplate (kind of like a flywheel for an automatic car....very thin) and if the spacer is not removed when putting behind a manual transmission setup then the flywheel will sit out too far for the starter to fully interface with it....not to mention its downright dangerous to drive due to the flywheel hardware not fully/not evenly securing the flywheels center section to the crankshaft. Not trying to sound too dramatic here....but Trans damage, flywheel damage, crank damage, and starter damage WILL happen if that spacer is there.

^ Poetry. What white is saying can definitely be your issue. If your car runs good when pop started then the problem will definitely be located in between the trans and engine. Possibly flywheel/what white said.

A less dangerous and more common problem is that many people "I" included forget to put the thin transmission plate that is sandwiched between transmission and block. that precisely helps holds your starter in perfect position, with out it your starter wont even touch the teeth on your flywheel; or it will chip your flywheel away and then you'll need a new one.

Can i give you some real advice.? .. Don't take your car to a shop. Search the web/DSM Tuners. Buy your own tools , Offer the guys hear Free beer And Pizza. they'll help you. Buy Your own tools and start learning now.. because you will be taken advantage off. No one will care about your car as much as you. We were and still are wear you are now. Take the advice . Because you'll spend alot less investing in you own tools and knowledge. Learn from others (my self included) mistakes so you wont have to make them yourself, i'm still learning and i have been building my car since my 2nd Tour from Iraq.3 yrs now. But little by little. you'll get there.

Sorry to revive a dead post. I eventually got it fixed from a tarpon springs mechanic who did the work for a fair price. Just got a new job at the ritz carlton and all my time is spent working at the new restaurant there. The car runs now but I've found out a lot about the car.

As you said in the last most recent post I should have done the work myself.. I really want to learn about dsms and that would have been a great learning experience. I've started a tool collection and bought the how to build 4g63t max performance magazine. Not that that has done anything to my previous knowledge but I do know now that I probably went in to far ahead of myself when I bought this car.

The car is actually a 7bolt which honestly isn't the worst thing in the world. The car overheats a little bit but it only has a single fan godspeed radiator. It was previously owned by a girl named rochelle gonzalez if anyone knows her.

The suspension feels a little shot as I can't really go into a smallish pothole without feeling It through the wheels.

There is rust on the undercarriage and the strut towers are starting to get rust holes. My passenger sode is the worst with about a rust hole the size of a softball. My driver side is small about the size ofspiderweb.
Anyway the car is pretty upgraded with mostly evo 3 upgrades

Evo 3 16g
Evo 3 manifold
Evo 3 o2 exhaust and downpipe
Timing belt replaced
Cv axles replaced with new

A lot of stuff I'm missing but I feel like I'm losing all motivation due to the rust

I'm currently on the lookout for either a new car (dsm)
Or a new gsx shell to replace my cars things with.
To say the least I'm pretty disappointed yet interested to see what the future holds
I would love to keep my car if rust was beatable but I'm really not experienced to handle it on my own.

If anypne would love beer and pizza I'm located in sarasota florida

I need some dsm friends!

Also I have a new 2gb headlight set and front bumper.. that will be my latest project. :)

I realize this is an area specific subsection, but I would advise against posting your address on a public forum. As a means of theft prevention, among other things.

I 100 percent thought about that but was hoping the world was filled with friendly dsmers but your point is very valid. Appreciate that.
