Texas
I'm new to the Houston area. I'm originally from Florida. I'm here in Texas in Surfside right on the beach. I sold my house and put all my DSM's worth holding onto in storage units. Mainly moved here to take some of the burden off my sister after my step-father had a stroke and both him and my mother would need assistance financially and physically. So sense I'm gonna be here I might as well build another DSM to keep me busy. I found a 1999 gst (white) with 111k (manual). The kid (owner) had no idea what he had. He said over the phone that it used to be a non-turbo and now it's a turbo. His ad showed pictures of the engine bay and it showed a 4g63 with a 1g intake manifold. So it had at least a 1g head on it. But I was praying that it had a 6 bolt in it. Anyway here's the kicker, the kid was asking for $1000, and said that the engine runs but something is wrong with it. He said that it blew up or something. So I drove to Austin with a vehicle carrier. (3 hour drive) Took the same road that the cast from Dazed and Confused were on at the end of the movie when they were driving to Houston to get aerosmith tickets. (top priority of the summer). Anyway I got there and checked out the eclipse and decoded the VIN, it was a 99 gst alright. The engine looked like crap but for $1000 it was still a steal. I loaded it up and brought it to my new surfboard factory in Surfside, Tx. After a day of inspecting it, I decided to gut the entire engine bay and rebuild the block and put new parts on the entire car. It turned out to be a 6 bolt!!! YEA!!! It's currently a great street car, and it's running/boosting great. The only thing that's not new is the alternator and it's going bad. Not suprised that the only thing that I haven't replaced is going bad. Wondering how the Houston DSM scene is? Sorry for rambling, thanks redbull
