So just out of simple curiousity, what is everyone's future or current career?

I'm taking up biology currently, and planning on transferring into a PA program in a few years.

I'm halfway done with an Environmental Engineering degree. Non-traditional student that decided to go back to school.

I thought about engineering awhile ago, but mathematics is not my strong suit, at all. Plus, I'm not into the idea of traveling all the time for work. But much respect for all who pursue it!

Been in the Navy 6 years, have 2 left, Im an Aviation Electrician. I still dont know WTF i want to do with my life. Kind of tied down with a wife and two kids. If i had to pick i would want to become either an Electrical Engineer or a commercial airline pilot. I dont really want to play this navy game forever but we will see what happens if i make more rank.

I have a good friend who is also in the navy for 6 years, he just started a little bit ago. He's almost done with schooling in Virginia, then he's going to be stationed in Hawaii.

Sounds like you should give a call to ATP flight school

Lol complete opposite here. I was in the Clark School of Engineering (mechanical) and decided math was my strong suite, and I didn't like doing engineering related stuff on other peoples time (physics, electronics etc... I like to learn at my own pace as they apply to my projects)

Pops was an electrical engineer, and all I remember is his long ass work hours 8am to 9pm. and once I saw his office desk, and proposals, I decided it wasn't for me.

So I'm now in the Mathematics traditional/educational track LOL. Trial, and especially the error part, is so much cheaper when its only on paper. Destined to be a teacher or some other kind of number cruncher. Now the only manifolds I get to play with will be of the topological nature.

Last semester of college pursuing a Criminal Justice degree. Just got a job upon graduation in May.....selling cars.

In the Fall I'm going to be going for either Mechanical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or both.

I always wanted to be an Aerospace Engineer though.

Mechanical Engineering at the University of Florida. Last semester and I'm done! 5 weeks and 2 days, but who's counting? Hah! I'm commissioning into the Air Force the day after, then headed to Colorado for my first assignment. I really wish kids in high school realized how college isn't so bad, and how easy it is to have a bright future with the right mentality. Pretty much anyone can get into it as long as they try in high school. There are way too many scholarships out there, and really no reason to not go for them.

Go Gators!

Good luck on your journey man. Make sure you attend at least one of the dsm/mitsu meets in jax before you leave.

In the process of Auto Body/Mechanic. Need to do something more with my life than just working at plants and warehouses. Have a 8 month old son now and getting married in July. Gotta teach him to do better in school growing up then I did. Lol

One of my biggest regrets is not trying hard in high school. After being in college for a little now, I realized how easy high school would've been if I put forth the same effort as I am with college.

If only I listened to those who told me "it only becomes harder after high school." Oh, how true it is. And I'm still in the easier part!

Currently in Engineering, I'm hoping to get out of the military and put my Top Secret clearance to work as an engineer at Northrup or Lockheed, or some place like that.

+1 on that and looking back now I wished someone would have slaped some sense into me. And it gets harder after college. Nothing like looking at your paycheck and seeing over half of it gone in taxes and your 401k! :thumb:
All the cool things I wanted to do didn't pay anything or I didn't know the right people at the time. I'm now an old man at 40 and busting my ass to make up for the shit I should have been doing at 25.

Best advise I can give is look at what you want to do, look at where its going, look at the people that have been doing it for 15+ yrs and see where there at. Are they happy, well off, how did they get there? If your ok with that then go for it.

Totally agree on that one. I realized how hard it was trying to survive without a diploma or GED. I said i was through with working at plants make 10.00 a hour when the work im doings worth 15.00. Ready to make some real money and love to do what im doing.

I'm still trying to make the transition from Infantryman to Industrial Electronics student.

:)

Well, I commend you guys on going to college, but for me I still don't think it makes sense to go. Two years out of high school I was making way more than I am now writing residential mortgage loans, at that time in my life I couldn't justify spending the money to go to college while not even knowing what I wanted to do for a career.

To me, writing loans was the greatest job I'd ever had. I got to help people reduce their monthly obligations while at the same time make extremely decent pay.

After the mortgage industry tanked, I turned to the only other thing I had extensive experience doing, computer programming. Before someone says, "Well you could go for a degree in Information Technology" or something similar, one thing you should know is that programming is more of an art in the sense that you can learn how to draw or sculpt and be good at it, but talent is not something you can teach.

If you take two candidates, one fresh out of college with a cool BS in IT/web development, and one with no college degree but has an impressive portfolio of work (native/web/mobile applications) using best practices and a variety of different languages. I don't know about you but I'd pick the guy who already has the experience and proof of competency. If both candidate have an impressive portfolio then they are still both equal options, the only difference being one person has a degree, but bother produce impressive work. I'd still choose the guy with no college experience seeing as how he can naturally pick up new languages and adapt, while the other has to take classes.

My point is that talent > degree so as long as you can prove your skills.

There are other ways to make good money without a degree. High commission sales is a great way to make gobs of cash, most of those jobs let you make your own hours, or come in when you want to work (car sales, Yacht sales, business consulting, etc...). Another alternative would be to find a field that requires a state or federal license (Home Appraiser, Loan officer, Real Estate agent, etc...). Of course you could go the route of starting your own business, the idea is to start with you doing all of the work, obtain new clients, then start hiring people (probably a commission only position if you don't have the money to pay them hourly), get more clients and repeat. If you dont want to make under $25/hr for the rest of your life then you'd have to be a go-getter without a college degree

Obviously if you want to go into engineering, law, or the medical field, then you definitely need a degree.

Starting classes in October. Automotive and high performance motorsports. As for my future, I want to own some kind of race shop and a string of McDonald's on the side. :D
