Ok so I posted awhile back looking for a evox and after a few discussions I decided to try and find a evo 8 or 9. Well I happen to pass a deli a few weeks ago and saw a grey evo 9. I pulled in and found the owner and asked him if he would be interested in selling it. He replied no but he's wanting to sell his wifes evo 8.

info on it:

03 evo 8
weightless white
140k all highway miles
original owner
female driver
bine stock other than:
newer clutch
newer brake pads and rotors
base tuned with a gas mileage tune and a valet tune
comes with extra trunk without spoiler

The title is clean and it was in a minor accident years ago that the front bumper had to be replaced, the owner says the paint is dead on matching. I'm also going to do a car fax on it. The only major thing wrong with it is apparently when they first got it the paint on the rear bumper started peeling and the dealership repainted it and its peeling again but i want a jdm rear any ways.

I asked him how much he wanted and he said 10k. I thought about jewing him down but i know white evos are hard to find amd the closest one that isnt a arm and a leg to my location is 12k with 75kmiles and has a rebuilt title.

wjat do you all think and also what are some things to look for. I know shaft olay of course and I've heard to check the transfer case for leaks. Also thought about getting a mechanic to do a compression test. I been around turbo eclipses for years and built them but haven't been around alot of evos.

here's a picture from a while back and yes it has a new tire on it and not the donut.

also its a 5 speed with the blacl and blue seats

You cannot make me believe that any car is "all highway miles" unless you live right on major interstate :). Not a bad price, take 9k up there and talk some business.

And to tell you the truth. If my wife had an evo 8. Guess what I would drive ;).

Good looking car though!

buy it no questions asked if you check it out and everything is proper there should be no reason to pass on it evo 8s are the best hands down

I would go for it. I got mine for 13 with 80k 100% stock. I also got a grate deal on mine. It needed the front bumper painted and a good wax polish. I would try to adjust the heater controls. They are always broken and hard to move. Also look to see if it has been modified and brought back to stock. Like does it have all the heat shields/ brackets bolts/ wire loom tie downs and everything? I would not want one with that mileage if it has had a hard life. Then it will nickel and dime you to death.

Need a few more pics. Under hood! it looks to be lowered. See what kind of springs they used. That right there will tell you what type of "modifier" the guy was to help make more judgments.

Do a full inspection and check under it for rust.

Being that it is an 03 means it has a weak T-case. Drive it and make sure you do not hear any Whining coming from the T-case or the drivetrain.

I was pretty sure that was a problem, so what transfer case should i put in it?

thats the only picture he sent me but im just going to drive to him and look at it. As far as I know its not lowered any maybe is just the donut thats on the front LOL.

I know what these should look like stock so im pretty sure i can tell of things have been done.

its nice that its a 1 owner and not been whored around

now I just gotta find someone that can run a carfax for me LOL

What are your plans for it? the 03 and 04 non RS do not have LSD in the front and the 05+ have ACD with LSD. If you are looking to do bolt ons only the 03/04s might not be for you with it's smaller hotside. The 05+ are what you are looking for. Also, it should have HIDs from the factory as I believe all 03s came with it and should have a intercooler spray. Biggest problems I have seen is the tranny to be honest from a lot of abuse. Look under for any major leaks (like stupid o-ring between tranny and transfer case) and check maint. records and do compression and leak down test.

Unfortunately Evolutionm doesn't seem to be as technical as this one so look throught the How-tos here as they are almost the same motors. (minus the obvious things)

Goodluck!

Good luck

Run it yourself you lazy ass it's cheap.

yes, yes I am LOL. then again im paying 100$ to have a compression test done at a local shop and have a borescope camera put down in the cylinders.

thank man, the bad thing is I've looked for evos for a while andbhere in ky there hard to come by and if its as clean as the guy claims its on especially cus its white. I know about the transmission but honestly right now im gonna daily it while i finish my 2g gsx maybe a few boltons. probably do studs fuel pump exhaust and a hx35 and a tune within the next year or so. i just want a nice awd daily thats turbo'd

You should do the comp test yourself too, the tester is cheeeap and you just replace it in one of the sparkplug holes and crank the motor with the throttle proped open and the injectors unplugged. Do it while it's warm. Borescope cam is a good idea though.

well I actually have the compression tester from harbor freight but if i take it to a shop and something happens its om them and plus i would want someone take it to a professional to. but i did think about asking the owner to do it for me cus its his car you know

Just tryin to save you a few bucks thats all.

I understand that completely man and appreciate it. Im gonna talk to the owner and see what he wants to do also, plus it would be cool to see the cylinder bores and shit LOL.

Ok so and update. I had a carfax done and the guy said there was a incident with the front clip being repaired and i assumed he meant front bumper well apparently it was a major incident with the air bags being deployed in September 2010 and it got rearended in January of 2005. I know that the major incident is gonna hurt if i get a loan for it. idl that kind of sucks LOL but i talked to the dealer I had run it for me amd he said if i get the car for 9k he said i would be doing good but tale it to a body shop and have it inspected.
