14b install from dumb previous owner

okay now i know there are a few forums about installing the 14b, but my issue is that the previous owner, well he wasn't a smart person and blew the t25 that was in it, and instead of fixing it, he converted the car to N/A, so my issue is that i need help making sure i get her converted back, keep in mind this is my first dam/boosted car so bare with me, i have a decent mechanical background and plan on doing the work myself, just need some help, thanks guys

It's not to bad Justin has a how to in the tech section on here and also YouTube. If you buy the kit from gpop he also sends instructions.

Haha well I understand that, I'm not mechanically dumb, I have worked on many cars, I say noob in a sense that this is my first Turbo so that's more what I mean

Dsmkauai is correct. I just did my first rebuild and used G Pop. I purchased the kit, did the teardown and cleanup, shipped it to them for the balance, and rebuilt myself. Although you have a 14b and I did a 16g should be very similar. Here's a link to my rebuild with pics, it's gravy man......gravy. Go for it, i think with shipping, kit, and balance it set me back about $190.

Plus it gives you the chance to learn a little more about your car :thumb:

Not all 2g nt's had the 420a the Eurospec N/As had a N/A 4g63 The N/A spyders had a 4g64

Appreciate it Chris that helps, my only problem is I don't have many tools at my disposal where I live now, I want to rebuild it myself just don't know my way around turbos or Turbo systems

You don't need much for tools. Check out the rebuild how to, it honestly is pretty simple.

Sweet, I really want to get it back boosted like it should be, my next question is I know I said earlier how I wanted a fmic, but my question is,is it really gonna help me with a 14b Turbo or should I wait until I upgrade the Turbo before I spend the money to get one

MHI Turbos are component balanced. Further balancing isn't necessary even after a rebuild (assume correct assembly and no damage). It's honestly a very easy job. I've rebuilt quite a few of them now. All running strong. One of them put up 25k miles so far on a friend's 1g. Shaft play was as if I built it yesterday. I'm no justin, but as long as you follow the guides OP, you won't have a problem.

A large core wouldn't be too much of a benefit as it would kill spool time, however, an upgrade to the factory SMIC would help greatly. I can heat soak a stock sidemount on the 14b by the end of a 3rd gear pull.

If your gonna stay at stock boost I would say keep the smic but if your gonna crank it up down the road a fmic will help with cooling a lot

If you have the stock intercooler and some piping for it then slap it on. If not go fmic now. There's no reason to buy things twice

Yup, a lot of people swap their smic to something a bit more efficient from other factory vehicles. The supra smic would be a good example.

I'd say keep your money from the FMIC and worry about the current dilemma LOL

. Once you get it back to boosted it may have issues the PO didn't tell you about. Save the money for worst case scenario haha. Plus do all your maintenance first.

Save the money for something else.
Get the car back to stock form.
Fix the new issues that arise.

Yeah that's the plan, really my main goal is to get her back boosted like ot should be, and yeah I'm gonna make sure everything is good, and build the engine up like new rods etc before I worry about it

There's no need to build the engine for the power levels the 14b will put you at. It sounds like you're on the right track though. Maintenance before mods.
