Hey guys, its time for a journal! A little about myself, I'm 18 studying mechanical engineering at UMass Amherst. Currently Treasurer for the Motorsport Club at school. I absolutely love cars.

Started my car career with a '97 Seagreen Camry. Drove that til didn't start anymore. Next I "borrowed" an '87 Cadillac Eldorado, overheated too many time til one day it stopped working. Next car was my '06 Mitsubishi Lancer ES. Loved this car. All show and no go though! You can read about its story HERE. To sum it up I was driving with 3 hours of sleep over 48 hours and feel asleep and rear ended someone else.

Moving on to the Eclipse GSX. Bought it for $3750. 179k miles on the body. 40k on the engine. This is how it looked a few months before I bought it.

Learning stick was fun until I realized I couldn't shift into 2nd, 4th, or Reverse anymore. Fixed that with new shifter cables.

Next issue was not being able to get into first gear because my shift was broken, dumb friend forced the shifter in. I jerry rigged it with washers and it works. I just got the OEM clip in. Install will happen this week

I'm absolute Plasti Dip fiend, I redid the gray trim around the car and the rain guards. Looks great.

Congratulations on the car, it looks nice. It sounds like you are headed in the right direction and know to fix/repair/check all standard components before you start to upgrade and break things. I have personally been into DSM's for about 14 years and made the mistake of buying my first one and starting to mod it while overlooking how mechanically sound it was...big mistake. Good luck with everything and I'm sure you'll enjoy the heck out of the car, they're a blast. Just remember, maintenance is key to keeping these things running well.

Update 3/10/13

Haven't updated this in a while, mainly because the car shit itself and havent worked since I created this thread....yes since July.

In a nutshell: I bent all the values in the head, had some douchebag try to fix it because I was busy with school and tight on cash. He took 2 months to do something he said he do in 2 weeks. When I got it back car overheated, then another issue came up where the car would stall when I pushed clutch in or shifted.

New plans: I bought a 6 bolt long block to swap in to get away from head overheating issues.I figure since I know nothing about what this guy did, I'll do all the work and do it right.

What I've bought so far:


6 bolt long block (used, no clue on how many miles where on it, told it run fine, looks like theres emissions delete)

So im deciding to put in the 14b turbo in until i can buy 20g bastard kit. While I was taking the turbo bolts 2 snapped. I soaked them in PB blaster and will attack again tomorrow. Thats all for today. Stayed tuned for daily updates!

Working on pulling this turbo. Allen bolt are stuck and I think i need a socket allen wrench tool. Oil drain and feed needs to be removed. I soaked everything in PB Blaster, going let it soak overnight.

I will attempt to remove the turbo tomorrow it its not coming out easily, I will continue removing the entire engine and will deal with it later. Like I said before I will throw the 14B on for now until I can rebuild turbo with 20g compressor wheel etc.

No pics (been getting lazy) Got more stuff disconnected. My order went thru RRE, gettin more goodies in the mail next week. Im hoping to have the engine out by Sunday the latest so I have ample time to install 6bolt and troubleshoot (Theres always problems, nothing is ever easy with my car)

Im going to reuse the PP, sand it down a bit.

Things to do
Remove tranny (I want drop everything in together at once)
Get 1g in 2g harness (order from magnus a week ago, no tracking or reply to my email yet)
Remove o2 housing off down pipe
Clean engine bay. (so much dirt, Ill ###### do a wire tuck where i can)
Emissions delete.

Thats all for today. I really wanted to have this up and running for the weekend but looks like im going need another week.

How's the build coming along? It's been a few days since you posted your youtube video. I have a 95 GSX as well that is in fairly good shape with a 6bolt swap. I want to start moding it soon, but I want to do a rundown of all the maintenance and be sure it is ready to be moded. The only thing holding me back is money right now, trying to get that taken care of. I am enthusiastic to see how your car comes out with what you do to it. :) Keep up the good work! :thumb:
