Cps malfunction.

What causes it? My car had a few issues and then this came. I was receiving missfires in cylinder 3 for a couple days noe and it fixed itself. Anyway I've been hearing a clicking sound from the engine which I assumed was lifter tick. Now I read it could be the.crank. also when I press down the clutch, it makes a click, its noticeably loud. The clutch feels like its sticky too. It goes up slowly. My has been leaking oil from the valve cover but I stopped it. Oil light is on when the key isvin the on position. I assume thats nirmaoDid my car crankwalk? If so that would be a tragedy since I'm 18 and this is my car that I worked for.

Currently the car doesn't start at all.I always assume worst case scenario. Just preparing for the worst.

Edit: I'm going to try switching out the CPs and check for play. If that doesn't work then idle.

Have you checked or performed a single one of the suggestions that have been given? Your jumping all over and parts placing with out checking into anything. Of course its going to be an expensive money pit when you keep blindly throwing money at it.

Its really hard to follow whats going on and what you've done.

How about you give us a recap on the parts replaced and which if any of the suggestions you've performed.

What do you mean by check it? Remove it again? It was a pain to get it in there without taking the timing belt off. It is connected to the plug.

Check the actual harness to the CPS with a MM. See if you are getting power at the wiring. If you are, replace the ECU with a good one.

Okay then, let me list them all.....

Stuff removed/replaced in the past month or so:

-Alternator
-Battery
-Starter
-Terminals on battery cables
-CPS
-Gaskets on everything
-Head Rebuild
-Checked for crankwalk
-Timingbelt is in time
-New Plugs
-New Wires
-Unplugged and plugged Clutch switch, tried it both ways nothing
-Tried hitting starter with a hammer and nothing
-Push started, it works, jump start it works

Anything else?
-I've performed most if not everything that has been suggested that is within my ability or tools. I don't have many of the complex tools right now.

Bump still in need of assistance, starter makes a nasty sound like its spinning but the car isn't cranking.

any more help? It still only pop starts or jumpstarts. Starter sounds weird, going to replace it yet again today. Replaced the ground cable on the battery with no difference. Pretty much thrown parts at it like crazy haha, well mainly small parts. I changed pretty much everything on the charging and starting system.

Also, my car seems to be overheating now when I leave it on after jump starting it?? The temp needle goes crazy up and down if I press th egas but I started another thread on that.

still in dire need of assistance. No one wants to buy the POS so I need to fix it to sell it. I've never hated an object so much as I do this. Seems like something so simple since it still runs but overheats and doesn't start.

I have called 7 mechanics and not one has showed up. Useless

Did you try changing the starter relay that is behind the stereo? This was a problem before for me and my brther as well. Its only like 20 bucks at the dealer. Dont go to a parts store because they're way more expensive. Its easy, remove the radio and towards the back there should be 2 relays side by side. I believe its the one on the left.

Ya know, I doubt it crankwalked, I really do. I've had a good 5 seven bolt cars with multiple different setups and the only one I really had any abnormal play was one with a abnormally heavy PP/Clutch setup providing increased stress.

But you need to check the CPS and make sure it's not damaged.

If you're going to manually jump the starter please make sure no 1 is in front of the car is your run yourself and them over in the process of starting a vehicle while in gear make sure the car is not in gear

A buddy of mine has this problem after changing his clutch back when i was in high school he had a 93 eclipse. Turned out he was missing a wire from his start ( he forgot to put it back on) anyway it sounds to me like you are either not getting a good ground to your starter or you are not getting enough power as stated before. Take a Multimeter and make sure you are

1) getting 12V to your starter and that you aren't losing power when you try to start it.

2) make sure your ground wire on your starter has good continuity to the actual chassis ground.

Like I said a buddy of mine had the same problem where he could only start the car by push starting it and it was a missing wire. I would be willing to be that its not a bad starter so much as its a bad connection.

Like someone else stated dont just blindly throw money at your car. If your gonna do something like that then I will gladly accept the money that you are blindly throwing and put into my car. LOL

If you car does not start at all there is three things you need to check.

I agree with warpath it sounds like a bad ground to me. check the ground that is supposed to be bolted to the bellhousing. When the temperature is rising make sure the cooling fans are turning on.
