So doing the tutorial here http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-intake-exhaust/391977-free-fiav-block.html attempted to remove the coolant lines to the Tb for a cleaner look. I turned the dial about 2 turns and cant turn it anymore as Ive completely destroyed the little indents where you place the needle nose pliers and its extremely old/rusted so its very hard to turn it in the first place.

Not being able to bottom it out, I have some very annoying idle issues now. Idles at about 1.5-2k very often and getting surge from time to time. Looking to see what my options from here to fix it. Pretty sure even if I put the coolant lines back the surge will still be bad since the fiav is very much out of adjustment.

Can I install a fiav block off plate and it'll negate how out of adjustment it is?

Edit: Resolved. Should have searched a bit more- http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/420919-fiav-bypass-plate-install.html

Edit Again: Fiav Bypass plate worked wonders.

I just did this, and it seems that I did bottom out the FIAV, but I'm still getting idle surge. Weird thing is, I put a block off plate in a year ago or so, and had the same issue with it. Why does my car not like idling without the FIAV?

Well it actually idled fine with the FIAV, but I had it all apart, and cut the coolant lines short, so I figured while it was off I'd do away with that embarrassing high idle at startup, and now it idles like crap. Maybe the piece didn't get turned in all the way. A few years ago I had a throttle body rebuilt and the guy that rebuilt it used a FIAV bypass plate in it, and it idle surged then too.

I just ordered a block off plate and I'm gonna try deleting the ISC and FIAV and just try tuning around it with v3. If that doesn't work I guess I'll buy a new throttle body with a working FIAV and ISC.

Thats odd. My Idle was horrible after my failed attempt to turn the dial all the way in.

I installed this plate here and my idle has been great since

My only guess is you might have a vacuum leak somewhere (run a BLT) or the FIAV bypass is leaking or wasn't installed right. Pull it, disassemble it and reseal it up.

That car sounds beast. I ordered the plate from ebay and I'll give it a whirl. I plan on blocking the ISC and FIAV, just to do away with the bottom half of the throttle body. I had that bypass and it made it idle terribly, and the plate was installed by a reputable member of the boards, then diagnosed as the idle problem by a local DSM shop. If it's that unbearable I'll just get a new throttle body with a working FIAV.

Do you have A/C?

I see. Yea I mean its most likely some nasty leak somewhere causing it. You installed new shaft seals right? If not that could be a pretty nasty leak right there assuming they aren't changed. I would do a real solid BLT before shelling out for another TB just to make sure the system is sealed up.

Yea it has A/C I had the belt off during that video though.

Well when I had the throttle body rebuilt by a member, the shaft seals and everything were done. I messed with trying to get it to idle right for a long time, doing hundreds of boost leaks. Eventually I gave up and took it to a local DSM shop, and they diagnosed the problem as being the FIAV bypass plate. As soon as they took that off and re-connected the coolant lines it idled perfectly again.
