Im wanting to get a short shifter but not sure what kind? I would really appreciate some opinions, or if someone has had experience with any good shifters. Thanks.

My cut and welded shifters have always worked for me.

This ^^^^^^

Can you explain this procedure?

Step 1: Cut.
Step 2: Weld.

LOL

But for real, imagine how much lower you want it. take note. Then cut out a section equal to how mush you want it lowered. Then weld it back together. Don't use JB weld. Cut it as close to the "base" or "pivot fulcrum" as possible.

+1 to Megan short shifter.

Its a 1G Megan never made a short shift for the 1G's. OP there is a way to use a modified stealth/3000GT shifter in the 1G's also ebay sells a short shifter. They claim it will work with 90-94...It does not. 90's have a completely different base and shifter. Id look into the modified stealth/3000GT shifter. From reading around on it, Its suppose to be the best as they adjust the height and throw.

1G kits are for 91-94. Us "lucky" enough to have the 90's have to modify to use a short throw

So onto Shift knobs whos got the coolest? any pics would be cool

not trying to jack anyones thread

Not really part of this thread. Click on the search tab at the top, there's a thread for that already with loads of pictures.

The cut and weld method sounds best since you can customize any angle you want on its stance :D

Also if you have the capabilities to do the welding your self it would be cheaper than purchasing a kit offline with shipping.

Throw a 2g shift knob on it and call it a day. AND cutting the top part of the shifter doesnt shorten the throw, its the bottom half that shortens the throw.

+1 for the B&M short shifter. You have the option on having a 30% reduction or 50% reduction. I myself for my 2g have it set to 50% reduction haven't had any issues with it. It does sit about stock height though.

i never liked short shifters but thats my imo. just snap you're wrist faster :) but yea megan is a good product.

A true short throw shifter actually changes the fulcrum point and the geometry of the shifter. Cutting/welding changes the leverage of the shift rod. Both will shorten the throw between gears, but the cutting/welding will actually relocate the knob lower as the short throw kit will not. I personally have both. I have a Megan short throw kit to relocate the fulcrum higher, and I have it welded together at the pivot shaft instead of bolted (kept comming loose after banging through gears all the time - LOL) and I also took out about 1" of the neck to lower the knob. Shifts from 1-2 or 3-4 are about 2" max! Love it!

Also, if you want to shift faster, a shorter throw between gears is not all you need, you need be be able to pop a clutch fast too, or the shifter is worthless. Just a side note.
