ok so recently i had a sputter problem. i had run the car about out of gas for the first time seince ivce owned the car and thats when the problem started.when i took off my old filter i pour the gas in a cup and it was kind of orngish and had a little dirt in it. i replaced the fuel filter. and it fixed the problem for a few days then it came back. about that time i noticed my fuel pump started a very loud high pitched whinning. it is so loud i can hear it over my 3in exhaust on the high way. its a factory fuel pump by the way. so what im wondering is if i clogged up fuel pump and am pushing crap trough.

Well depending on how long you drove it almost out of gas it could be going out. (Fuel pump) because mine did the same thing so I replaced it with a 255 walboro and it was fixed. But best way to tell is to take out the fuel pump and check. Flush your hoses as wl because u you don't won't to take the risk of trash reaching your injectors. Just try that and see.

That eHOW thing doesn't work! There's no fuel pressure test port on a Mitsubishi engine. The link is riddled with misinformation and the dreaded "probably" word.

If the pump doesn't pump, remove the pump, put a funnel on the top port, fill the funnel with fuel, use hemostats to reach through the funnel of fuel and pull the little pin on the anti-drainback valve, then apply reverse polarity to the pump. The pump will pump backwards, cleaning the debris out of the inlet side. Put the pump back in the car with a new pickup strainer, and you're good to go. total cost, $5-$10.

I had the symptoms you just described, down to the orange colored gas. Want to know what it was?

Pull the pump right now and look at the tank. If it looks like that above, have fun. The tank will need to be cleaned with acid, and all the lines from tank to rail and back, plus rail and injectors, will all need to be replaced with new or very good shape used.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say you probably needed a new pump too.

ok so weird enough the pump looks fine and filters clean but it is putting out such loud high pitch squel like speaker that have bad feed back. its louder then my three inch exhaust at 75 on the high way. it never did that before this problem. well since i got it all a part i ordered a wally 255, rewire kit, afpr.

p.s. that is about the nastiest thing ive ever seen come off a car.

:p The car in question sat for 7 years with less than 1/4 tank of gas. So the gasoline turned into varnish, and it ate away at the inside of the tank. Rust and all that stuff turned into mud looking crap...the problem came from starting the car up(I did it to hear it run to make sure it wasn't knocking), BEFORE I knew it sat for so long.

This is the car it came out of.

Bought it off Craigslist for $1. You read that right, one ####in' dollar. I didn't know the dude beforehand, car wasn't stolen, he just had it since it was new and literally didn't want it anymore. It sat for 7+ years and he never touched it again. Total for tag, insurance, title transfer was like $90. It was 2.0L non-turbo 5-speed...but still. $1 car.

Just to brag a little more, here was the interior. :p

Lol! That looks like some crapped on it and put it back in the car
