I was out pounding on the talon lastnight and now I got some baaad lifter tick. This didnt just start lastnight, but when I'd start the car the last few weeks id have what sounds like one lifter was super lazy and not pumping up, soon as I gave it a little gas, it pump up and go away just like that. Now, its here to stay. What have you guys done to fix this? Can they be ajusted? I as looking at "new" style with 3mm oil rings or whatever it is??? Still new to this 4g63 stuff... Seems to be down a lil on power now too.. and Yes, it has oil in it haha. LMK what you guys think:hmm:

Uhm. Hopefully this is a lifter.

You'd want to replace with 3G lifters, they have the larger diameter ports. If the noise persists (after allowing a bit for the lifters to pump up), you might want to explore other issues.

I hope so to. Everyone i have ever heard from back from the track or beating on there car and noise started after that. Ussaly means ## about to spin a bearing.

That's what I was thinking. Sounds exactly like that because a collapsed lifter would yield for a consistent noise with throttle, the fact that this at one point would disappear with throttle scares me.

the tick speeds up with engine speed, some times can dim a little but come back.

Now on too the rod bearings, I pulled each plug wire off while running, tick doesnt go away, so pretty sure rods bearing r not the problem, and it sounds like it coming from right under the valve cover.. I'll go shoot a quick vid.... its bad...

That's definatly lifter tick, most if not all 1g and 2g's have this problem. You can solve this problem by picking up a set of 3g or 3rd generation revised hla's. (hydralic lash adjusters). From extreme psi for about 110$. Mine personaly got so bad it souned like a diesel.

Didn't know you could make a cummins diesel engine fit in a 1g..............

You meant a holset turbo right? Lol

Dont modify your lifters theres no way to insure all the metal shavings are gone.
3g lifters are so cheap why bother risking your engine.

I've seen 3g lifters for about $80 bucks, swap them in and you should be ok. Before installing new lifters soak them in a cup of oil so they are submerssed in oil. Then pump out the lifters before installing them.

What do you mean by this? Never had a problem with a 3g lifter.

I lubricate lifters and rockers before installing by soaking in oil and scrubbing out any gunk, unless they're brand new then I just soak them. Sure you could just use assembly lube, but why not take the extra time to well lubricate them to ensure your engines health.

thanks for all your insight guys, Figured it was lifter tick, looks like ill just grab a set of 3gs and slam in there.:thumb:

At the time I was new to the revised lifter thing. I bought what I thought was a set of 3g lifter, When come to find out they were 2g revised. Yeah, nothing like 3g. Cleaned them in kerosine, pumped then with oil, installed them, fired it up and loud as ever. Even worse then before. Come to find out the lifters were wrong, bought the correct ones. This time I bleed all the oil out, installed them, fired it up. Ehhh not so bad now, but Ive only fired it up 3 times since I installed them. So I cant say they've been good or bad.

Iam only hoping I didnt bend a valve pumping the 2g revised full of oil and installing them.

Sounds like you need to do a leak down test then. I hope you didn't either.

Also, where would you sugest getting 3g lifters from? I'm not trying to break the bank, I DD this, and mods arent that extreme, and I never turn it past 7.

Was referring to why not get 3g lifters instead of modifying your 1g i have topline 3g myself, you read me wrong.
