I was looking over my weld job on that vband test flange and noticed it warped a little bit, anyone got any pointers to keep that from happening? As well as the head flange and t3 flange?

fully hook up the vband and weld it in place..let it cool fully with the clamp still attached. Don't forget to take a soft mallet and give the vband a few taps as you tighten because they have a tendency to bind and not seal fully if you just wrench it down in one shot. That will lock the flanges in a cocked position as you weld.

I have a really good way to keep down the warping but I can't share it just yet because then the price will be really high. I need to get one made first for myself :)

Hopped on the miller diversion 180 20 minutes ago. Testing a vband weld to sch10 3" ss to make sure i have amperage correct for my custom o2 housing. I Figure if i can make it the exact same dimensions as the stock one, i can bolt up or vband to my megan down pipe.

I still havent gotten the purge setup yet but like i said this is just practice. I had some sugaring on the insde so i tried to grind it out hahahaha

Thays the idea, using a 120* mandrel bend from vibrant. I'm waiting on a merge collector also cause i said f cutting my own with a hand saw. Then I'll grab more sch10 weld ells and start manifold #1

I finished te prototype runners and i haw to double check everything aligns before i start using that as a template for the real thing.
I did the same thing, except I didn't go soo wide and didn't use vband.

I had a problem with the flange warping. Thinking of having it machined or something cause they are non Gasket designed flanges.... :(

Is that a vibrant 120* bend? How much did you take off? I was worried if i cut it straight closer to the bend that the flange wouldent quite fit. I'm trying to fid te best angle for that. Would be freat if i had a stock 02 housing to mock with.

Started on the merge collector today!

Two passes and a cover pass with no filler, no purge, no sugar, no warping ^_^

No i said ef it and bought a vibrant one, come tacked together. So all i welded on it so far was to the flange, I also managed to snag myself a wholesale discount since vibrant is actually 15 minutes from me! They also hinted at me to apply for a job ^_^

I'm working on a jig so i can produce, but upon drilling almost all the holes for the head flange, i realize if you flip the flange the two bigger wholes dont align. The small ones do which ever side i flip it but the big ones are a smidge off, meaning now i need to either remove my manifold to find out which side goes to the head an which side to build the runners off, or eyeball it and possibly get fuqed with a 50/50%

I got the tall one 2454. And it was like 20 bucks more then that, full retail is 122 which is quite steep. I'm wishing i had got the short one but I'll make it work :) I'm gonna have mass issues with my o2 housing it's quiite tight in there by the oil filter and alternator. I'm going to bend a piece offiller rod in the angel of the stock o2 housing to get an idea of how things should fit and use that as a general template for the o2 housing.

Was going to share a couple simple picks from today. :)

The first one is what looks like the best 6010 beed i've layed down at this point..

The second one is the last two 7018 beeds i layed down today before having to stop welding for the day, eyes started to get irritated even on shade 13 after trying to weld on a grind setting :ohdamn:

This may be somewhat off topic, i need a chop saw to make merge collectors. Budget is 300$ how big of a chop saw am i lookin at here and I'm looking at the radial ones that can rotate i guess i wont be cutting more than 3" pipes. It's all related to welding cause i needa chop to weld :)

DeWalt makes a decent one for home shop use - about $200 on Amazon with free shipping if I recall. It is what I have. That being said, I hope you have a die grinder - the downside of Chop Saws is the cuts are not ideally square and the clean/prep time on a chop cut is pretty high.

And by rotate, I assume you are referring to being able to make miter cuts. The DeWalt can do that.

If you can get a bandsaw it will yield a much nicer cut.

Hahaha
Wow!!!
75$ unwelded with no flange.
I should start making these.

Yep, if you sell them for $50 a pop you will make a killing!

I want to see someone make one on a bandsaw. I've only seen people use chop saws.

I've read good things about the dewalt on and the evolution rage one.
My dad has the sears one and it's also really nice. I got the harbor freight one and I don't recommend it personally
Chop Saw from Sears.com

I've got a dewalt one and the rage evolution. Ss will destroy the blade that comes with the rage, you need to buy the blade designed for ss. It's 150ish iirc. I just use the dewalt one when making collectors and the rage for 4130 and alum.

Aren't you running a two scroll setup? Any pics of the downpipe you made? Are you using a 5bolt flange setup?

Alex

Yes, yes, and yes. I cut flange off the downpipe on car and welded a vband on.
